Surgeon General Issues Marjiuana Advisory
Click picture to watch.

Today, the Surgeon General issued an important advisory on dangers of marijuana.  The advisory makes it very clear that marijuana poses substantial risks.  Alabama has not yet legalized marijuana for medical or recreational use.  A medical marijuana bill was introduced in the 2019 legislative session.  However, it failed.  What did pass was a bill that established the Medical Cannabis Study Commission.  The commission had their first meeting on August 13 and representatives from Eagle Forum were present.  It was clear to us that the goal of the commission was not to determine whether or not medical marijuana should become legal in Alabama but rather that it is "done right".  Reading the fine print of the bill-it is clear that this commission will not be deciding IF a bill will be passed but HOW it will be passed.  (See page 4 of the bill here-specifically lines 9-22.

We encourage you to watch the Surgeon General's advisory.  It's 27 minutes long but there is valuable information not only from the surgeon general but also in the Q & A.  As this is an issue that will be on the forefront during the next legislative session we encourage you to review the science and research so you can be educated on the subject.

Join us at the next Medical Cannabis Commission meeting on Monday, Sept. 9th at 10:30AM in room 200 of the Alabama State House in Montgomery.
