A Letter from the President
“Be the Change You Want to See in the World”
If we are required to create change, let’s be the guiding light to ensure that the change optimizes student access, achievement and completion. And, let’s be the guiding voice to remind our institutions that a one-size approach does not fit all. When we serve our field, support our organization, help a student to succeed…we become leaders. The journey as a leader is not always easy…but then, most rewarding things aren’t. At times, it takes courage and personal sacrifice to do the right things for the right reasons (students).
Some attributes of a good leader include:
The list defines you - every NADE member who supports the application of our field’s best practices.
- Commitment and follow-through
- An inspiration
- A person who empowers others
- Creativeness and innovativeness
- Sense of humor and lots of love
“Just having a job sometimes isn’t enough to give you the inspiration and guidance you need to lead.” NADE wants to inspire and support you. First, and always, stay connected – with each other and with the Board. Contact the Board to request professional development opportunities, research needs, or provide us with your recommendations. We care what you think. Remember, NADE is all of us. This is a membership driven organization. Together we can.
NADE is currently busy organizing practical and informative webinars. You will have the opportunity to ask the presenters questions, live. The current lineup of webinars includes the following presenters: Zimmerer, Boylan, Eldridge, Goosen, Saxon, Treisman, Arendale, Shaffer, Tinto….and more to come. Go to www.thenade.org for updates.
Thank you for supporting NADE through your membership and/or attendance at the national conference. We think you’ll love the 2019 Conference in Atlanta. The Conference Committee is working hard to ensure that you do….hope to see you there! If you feel that you would like to do more, to lead the leaders, please consider running for a position on NADE’s Board. See the June Newsletter for the nomination forms.
“True leaders are the ones who step-up when everyone else is looking for cover.”
Continue to be an amazing leader.
