Silent Auction – March 6
Thank you to everyone who has donated thus far to the Silent Auction and to those who are helping with donation pickup and planning this important event.
In addition to the wonderful smaller items we are receiving, we are in search of big ticket donations to round out the auction selection. Those can include vacation properties, timeshares or similar items. Here is a list of the kinds of donations we have found successful:
- Shabbat dinner at a congregant’s home
- Vacation properties or timeshare stays
- New or unused Shabbat or Judaica items
- Gift cards or certificates for local businesses (eg, restaurants, spas, museums)
- Outdoor adventures (eg, scavenger hunts, boat rides, etc)
- Bottles of wine or spirits
- Gift baskets from those with a large garden (ie, a certificate for a basket of items from your spring/summer crop)
- Certificate for a class
- Electronics donated by a high tech company
If you have, or can solicit, any of these or other valuable items or services, please contact the auction committee at auction@beth-david.org. The committee will determine which items are suitable for the auction. As always, we depend on your tax-deductible donations to make this fundraiser a success!

- Women’s Shabbat – January 28, 2023. The 2023 Women’s Shabbat will be held on January 28. The theme is HAZAK – Be Strong. Thank you, Iris Bendahan, for always planning such a beautiful service. Please click here for more information and to sign up for a part.
- Mitzvah Day – February 5, 2023. Join members of the community and participate in various social action projects at Beth David at our annual Mitzvah Day. You can find more information here
- Ladies Who Lunch 2023 – Hosts Needed. The calendar for LWL hosts is half full! Hosts are still needed for: March 9, May 11, September 7, November 9 and December 14. To find out what hosting entails and/or to sign up, please go to 2023 LWL Host Signup. Thank you to the women who have already chosen a date.
- The Joy of Being a Grandma (Saftas Group). The first meeting on January 9 saw nine attendees who came, despite the rain, for coffee and chat at Starbucks. The next meeting will be February 7 at Paris Baguette in Cupertino. Watch for the SignUp Genius invite toward the end of January. If you want to join the mailing list, contact Joyce.
- Enjoy Life! A Message from Holocaust Survivor Max Garcia – February 19. Come hear the story of Max Garcia, as told through the lens of his daughter, Michelle Garcia Winner. She will share the lasting impact of the Holocaust and her father’s experiences on their family, as well as his willingness to use humor to make sense of the absurd. - Lilith Salon – March 15. Join Beth David Women and Lilith Magazine Board Member Rabbi Alpert for a "Lilith Salon". Like a book club but using articles from Lilith magazine, we will discuss several articles from the Fall 2022 edition (which we will provide), share opinions, stories, and of course, snacks. - Hamantaschen Baking and Sales – Details to come. Stay tuned!
- Hillel Dinners. Beth David continues its tradition of providing Shabbat dinners to students at Hillel in San Jose on selected dates. Jane Jacobson leads this wonderful project. Watch for dates, items needed, and details in a SignUp Genius. Please consider participating!

Many thanks to those who have stepped up to take various roles in the running of BDW. There are still a few roles that are open. Right now, we need volunteers for the following:
Photographer(s) – can be more than one person:
- Take pictures at BDW events
- Ask if we can use photos in advertising
- Submit pictures to Lynn Crocker to use in marketing
LWL/DWL Coordinator:
- Solicit a host for each month
- Submit Intake form (update)
- Confirm with host 6 weeks in advance
- Assist host as needed
- Work with Joyce and host on preparing SignUp Genius invites
