Dear friends and members,

This week has seen depressing reports of continued antisemitism on campus, as the Chair of the Oxford University Labour Club (OULC) Alex Chalmers resigned from his post citing his experience that “a large proportion of both OULC and the student left in Oxford more generally have some kind of problem with Jews” with examples to support this. Further discussion on social media and in the press supports his view, as well as two statements from Oxford Jewish Society (JSoc) and the Union of Jewish Students. In order to combat antisemitism, as well as islamophobia, anti-Christian hatred and all forms of religious intolerance and discrimination, we need to show our deep empathy for one another and demonstrate that these issues matter to people beyond the demographic that they directly affect.
