Second Stride, Inc.

What does it mean to have a “Second Stride”?

For a transitioning race horse:
A safe professional pathway to a new job.
Horses transitioned without care are at great risk of ending up in a risky home environment or worse.

For a donating race trainer or owner:
A stream-lined not-for-profit driven world of safe, professional connections and rehabilitative care and training.
Saves costly day rates and provides for a tax deductible rehabilitation/transition plan.

For a potential new horse owner:
A source for screened horses with personal one on one access and information to form an educated decision on your next match.
Get up close and personal. Access to all known information with no incentive for a transitioning owner to not disclose. They are already with us! They have had a basic vet check. (no xrays or ultrasounds unless otherwise disclosed) They have a rehab treatment plan if needed and have had an evaluation ride. They have about $1,200 invested in them to be sure that you know what you are getting. You have access to further vet inspections at your costs, and can watch the horse be ridden as well as ride or interact with the horse yourself to be sure it is a good match.

For our Community:
Pride in our community and cultural heritage, as well as our signature industry! Doing the right thing one horse at a time!
Help keep Kentucky green and proud. Support our transitioning Kentucky grown Thoroughbred race horses right here in our hometown as they learn a new job. Come tour the facility. See how you can be a part of a lasting legacy.

Adoptable
Horse of the
Month

MalacrianzaRetired from racing October 2016. He had a small ankle chip removed November 2016 and returned to training March 2017. He's sound and ready to continue training for any sport horse use.

He loves trail riding and is started over jumps. He's currently schooling x-country. This is a made horse with an excellent swing walk and relaxed, metronome canter.

He's kind to be around and easy to work with. He stands well for vet and farrier, cross ties, trailers, loves grooming, tolerates clipping and mane pulling, has good ground manners and stands to be mounted. He loves to work!

He has learned the dressage basics. He can do flying lead changes, leg yield, shoulder in, haunches in, turn on the forehand.

He is "in your pocket" and loves attention. He'll be nice for adults or kids, and would suit a confident pony clubber.

We also have his saddle that was fitted to him, at an addiional cost to his adopter if interested.
