Straight from the Horse's Mouth

GET READY FOR OUR NEXT BIG FUNDRAISER, SEPTEMBER 14th, 2017, from Midnight through 11:59 PM EST!

Mark your calendar now!

Once again Second Stride will be participating in the Give for Good Louisville, annual 24 hour day of giving. This is an event run by the Community Foundation of Louisville helping approved non-profits in the area.

The event will take place on September 14, 2017. Beginning at 12 AM and ending at 11:59 PM EST.

All donations can be made on line at

Donations range from $10 up to any amount you would like to give. Last year Second Stride’s generous donors helped us raise almost $10,000 at this event and that money got us through the winter months. We have our goal set this year at $15,000 and need your continued support to reach it.

Your donation will be used to pay for the feeding, care, vet expenses, farrier expenses, and training of the horses in our program. We are averaging approximately 15 horses per day in our care with a full wait list. The winter months are our biggest financial hurdles.

Second Stride Inc. is a 501c3, Guide Star Gold approved, Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance fully certified, and Approved by the Kentucky Department of Agriculture as a certified Equine Rescue program. Our board is all volunteer, and we try to be good stewards of the donations bestowed upon us. Please schedule a visit out to view what we are doing!

We want to get the word out so please send this email to 5 of your friends and ask them to do the same. With everyone’s help we are confident we will reach our goal. Please watch our website at and Facebook page for updates as the day draws near!

Thank you for your continued support as Second Stride helps Connect Hearts and transition the LEGENDS of our state into new careers!

Horse of the

Hammers Terror16.2 hands.  Now post track and post castration turning out 12 hours with other geldings each day. A race track and breeder favorite. He has tons of personality.

He is sound but does have an old injury that is still mending. To ensure a long term permanent recovery approved adopter to follow vet requirements on his rehabilitation. He should recover to full use.

A gorgeous, big, long necked, long legged prospect for any sport horse use. Appears very appropriate for an amateur with instruction to bring along.

Volunteer Spotlight

Volunteer rider, Jamie Denton, going above & beyond!  Shown here schooling Second Stride horse, Clody, Beginner Novice cross country prior to the Spring Run Mini-Trials.  Clody had jumping experience prior to coming into Second Stride, but as far as we know, this was her first ever cross country schooling, and she thought it was a blast!

Jamie rides many of our horses and enjoys getting them out of the ring.  She is often found out in our far back fields, exposing our young horses to the trails and hills.   This allows us to pass on valuable information to our adopters about how they react in wide open spaces with and without an escort.

Louisville Community Foundation
Second Stride is honored to be participating for the second year in this event.  We are in awe of what the Louisville Community Foundation does to help us and other non-profit organizations raise money for our causes.  The money raised in 2016 enabled us to give care and transition to more horses through the winter months.
On September 14, 2017 at 12:00 AM the fun begins and the donation lines open.  Some organizations will race to be the first to get a donation…as the Foundation has bonuses set up for different landmarks along our path.  One of those is given to the first to receive a $500 donation.  The lines are open for 24 hours and there are bonuses to be won throughout the entire day.  It is a very exciting day for us... we will be joining many other groups at Fourth Street Live, from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM.  It is a huge celebration with entertainment and live drawings from Delta Dental giving out more money to help these non-profits continue their good works.
I reached for my Thesaurus to find words comparable to “good” that were strong enough to express the heart of Second Stride. Personally, it is what gives my life purpose…it is extraordinary.  Over the years we have placed hundreds of horses into great homes.  To say it is good seems an understatement…it is spectacular.  The thoroughbred horse, that our state has become known for, is an animal that desires work and competition and human interaction.  They have been mostly bred to be racehorses, but that career is not always where their glory lies.  I have been blessed to become a part of their life after racing and the opportunity to feel and fall in love with hundreds of horses.  My heart explodes when they are matched with a special person that will take them to a new level of their purpose.
If you have ever considered donating to a local non-profit, September 14 would be the time to do that.  The Louisville Community Foundation has put together this event to help that dollar go further!  I urge you to participate and donate to whatever organization gives you a feeling of well-being.  It is a day of giving and it is all about giving back to your community.  Spread the word and join us for a remarkable day of reaching out and helping each other help others.  Among all the shining stars I hope that you will consider Second Stride!
