Spring time in Kentucky!

Second Stride, Inc.

Straight from the Horse's Mouth

Spring time in Kentucky! What more can I say! NCAA champs, blooming redbuds, yellow daffodils, misty mornings, schooling shows, clinics and those gorgeous foals seen in the emerald fields along Kentucky's highways; Second Stride is blessed to be home based in the equine capitol of the world!

The year is starting off with a bang! We have over 25 adoptions for the first 3 months of the year! We have a record number of hard working volunteers this year really rolling up their sleeves to make our organization a success. From schooling horses, to cleaning tack, running errands, doing applications, fund raising efforts, equine checkups, and attending functions with our booth, we have had so many folks just pouring in their talents and efforts. Since Second Stride is an all volunteer program, this is such an important thing that cannot be over looked! It is vital to our growth and mission to help more equines in need.

Because of the hard work these individuals have given us and our horses, we were able to increase our usual base number of horses in the program by double our normal numbers! Though we still have a waiting list for horses to come in, this has reached dozens of extra horses in need so far this year! Two horses, for instance, that made it into the program were starvation cases obtained by the city and after rehab they were unable to find them homes in any other programs since they were still colts. Second Stride is one of the very few programs that have the ability to take in a colt, castrate it and get it broke to ride and on the path to becoming a useful equine citizen. The plight of these colts without us is very dim.

To help our program reach even more horses in need, please consider supporting us with our April 12th 2012 fund raiser "Pony Tales" spring fling at the Bristol in Prospect, KY. Second Stride Inc. is having one of their 3 annual fundraisers this month to help feed, train and re-home the program’s horses in need. Please consider being a part of this exciting community event! We have needs for silent auction items, volunteer helpers, monetary donations, as well as supporters to come eat, bid and be merry at the event! Please pencil us in on your calendar.

Come party with your area horsemen, and learn about our "Pony Tales". The horses of our program have a thing or two to tell you!  Please spread the news to your horse buddies, forward this email or like us on facebook and check out the exciting detailed listing of the silent auction items on our facebook account and website: Yoga packages, car detailing, oil paintings, framed art, airplane rides, race memorabilia, gourmet food, rare and hard to find liquor, bourbon baskets, equine tack, flower arrangements, riding lessons, pedicures you name it!

All the best to you and your equine companions,

Second Stride Graduate
Signaller

Adopted by Kelly in North Carolina as her new trail partner. Kelly reports that Signaller is doing awesome!  He goes out on the trails by himself or with my trail riding partner.  He has settled in nicely to the routine of our quiet little farm life, and he is best friends with my mare Bella.  Signaller loves my children and does great with the dogs.

This month we are particularly grateful to Tanya Demeritt for taking on the role of volunteer coordinator!   Due to her help getting our volunteers organized, our adoption numbers are already way up for the year.  Many thanks also to Connie Sandusky, Jean Amick, Del Lowell, and Tanya Demeritt for organizing our 2012 Pony Tales event at the Prospect Bristol.  We'd also like to thank the Bristol and Emily for allowing us the opportunity to have our event at their restaurant again this year!
We have a new Facebook page that we need you to like! We grew too large for the old profile and need to switch to a page. To go there now click here.
