All alumni of the College of Arts and Sciences and our predecessor schools— Adelbert College, Cleveland College, Flora Stone Mather College, Western Reserve College and the science and math programs of Case Institute of Technology— are invited to return to campus for this special weekend. Physicist helps develop malaria detection device
|

|
Robert Brown, a Distinguished University Professor and Institute Professor in the Department of Physics, collaborated with Brian Grimberg, an assistant professor of international health at the CWRU School of Medicine, to develop a device that could revolutionize how malaria is detected and treated around the world. The Magneto-Optical Detector (MOD) combines magnets and laser light to determine, in less than a minute, whether a drop of blood contains malaria parasites. Read more.

Two art historians win NEH fellowships
|

|
Maggie Popkin and Erin Benay, assistant professors in the Department of Art History and Art, have each received a National Endowment for the Humanities fellowship. They are among 86 awardees who were chosen from more than 1,200 applicants. Popkin and Benay were selected for their separate—but thematically similar—research projects on the role art has played in the construction of knowledge and cultural exchanges. Read more.

2017 Baker-Nord Distinguished Faculty Lecture

Jenifer Neils, the Elsie B. Smith Professor in the Liberal Arts in the Department of Classics, will deliver a public lecture as the inaugural recipient of the Baker-Nord Center Award for Distinguished Scholarship in the Humanities. In her talk, Neils will offer a deep look at the style and meaning of a rare bronze sculpture in the collection of the Cleveland Museum of Art. Read more.
