Nov 2019 -  Xmas on KK, NACE, Week of Bday feasting, Thanks

If you are looking for a fun neighborhood holiday festival check out Christmas on KK in Bay View on Friday, Dec 6 from 5-10pm. The event includes pictures and story time with Santa, ornament decorating, carolers, Krampus, holiday pop-ups and more! I’ll be at the Magnet Factory with cards, jewelry and small gift-able art. 10% of our sales goes to the Bay View Community Center. Please come out and support a great cause. I had an exciting art gig this month. I created a live painting at the NACE (National Association for Catering and Events) Gala. It was held at Jan Serr Studios on Prospect Ave. What an amazing space! A two story wall of windows gives a panoramic view downtown and incredible sunsets. There was great music and a very elegant dinner. I was sponsored by ACA Music and Entertainment agency. The piece I created was a 20” square canvas painting titled ‘Wine and Song’. Knocked it out on time too, during cocktail hour. After the event I created some digital variations on the original art. If you are shopping for holiday gifts of art – let me know. I am between exhibits and have stock available. ACA has booked Tom for magic performances for at least 35 years. It is now run by our friend Matt Antoniewicz (who used to play in the Booze Brothers with Tom) and Barb Stephan – who introduced me to my hubby! We were thrilled to attend their wedding 3 days later. They chose another 'hot’ new venue for the reception - Story Hill Firehouse on Hawley Rd & Bluemound. It’s a real 1927 historic bungalow style Firehouse. Congratulations Barb and Matt! May you be as ridiculously happy as you are good looking.
I survived a birthday week of feasts and small celebrations. I visited some old favorite spots and tried some new ones – please check out the links. Tom calls it my birthday “season”. To start off there was the Veterans in Focus artist reception on Monday *check out this video of our adventures. Carroll University hosted a wonderful presentation and we got some nice press from Fox6NOW *link and video interview. Afterwards Mom and I stopped for lunch at the Point on Main in Waukesha. It had to be the friendliest little pub I’ve ever run across. They served up some killer grilled cheese sandwiches, homemade tomato soup and homemade chips. I will totally go back again. Had lunch (again) with the moms and sis on Tuesday at an old favorite spot – Singha Thai - great lunch buffet. Lunch (again!) with the Red Hat ladies at Bakers Square on Wednesday – free pie! For my birthday on Thursday we opted to skip a fancy steak dinner and went to Transfer Pizza to listen to the Many Ellis Trio. Scored a copy of a vintage CD of his and even had it signed. YAY. He is still swinging hard. Here is a video from a few years ago. I ordered a devine salmon brioche and Thai chicken pizza - plus Thursdays are $5 martini jazz lounge night. WIN. Pizza again w Uncle Joe on Friday at Happy Tap in West Allis – this is Tom’s new very favorite pizza joint. On Saturday mom and the siblings met up at 76th annual Folk Fair. It’s been absolutely ages since I have been there. Such great food and cultural exhibits and fun times watching dancers from around the world. We wound up the week at the K Ranch in Cudahy on Sunday. I ordered a Black & Bleu salad with blackened prime rib and bleu cheese - delish. Jazz Unlimited sponsors Jazz at the K Ranch - a band and jam session every 4th Sunday. The $5 cover goes to the Jazz Unlimited Scholarship Fund. We enjoyed the silky sounds of Ellen Winters and company. Lots of musician friends sitting in – and bloody marys - made for a fun afternoon. Wheeee!
Today as I was organizing the house and preparing for hosting the Burgermeisters I am reminded of how lucky I am. I’m so thankful for my extended family. Despite this being a year of huge personal trials for several of them – they persevere with grace and gratitude. They inspire me to do better. We’ll be doing the whole dinner hosting again for the Bukalders gang on Sunday. Double the blessings. Pass the gravy and pumpkin pie! I hope you all are with people you love on this holiday and can truly be thankful for all the good things in your life – large and small. I am especially thankful for fat pants this week. Thank YOU for reading my blog!
