April 2021 - Patio time, Guitars for Vets, Digital Art, iPad Pro, Flash Fiction and Piano Art, Riches

Hello friends ~
I am fully vaccinated. I am grateful for science. I am taking reservations to get shit-faced on your patio. Get your shot, then call me!  😉

Life feels on the verge of getting back to normal. But we will still be playing things safe. Tom went to a Brewers game this week and we are invited to do some outdoor-beer-day-drinking this weekend. Other than shopping or my mom's place, it will be the first time I am OUT of the house in a year. Hurray!
The Guitars for Vets program does great work. Tommy Knuth is very involved with them and he asked if I would be willing to donate an ‘art guitar’ to be auctioned off as a fundraiser. You bet! They provided two guitars and my friend Alice Konkel and I got busy creating. She choose a black guitar and blended her Zentangle skills with an eagle photo into a stunning design. Mine is more crafty. I painted vinyl sticker sheets with iridescent and metallic colors that I chopped into faux mosaic 'tiles'. It took longer than I expected to puzzle together. I’m happy with the results, but I think it needs neon purple strings yet.
I’ve been playing with digital art layers again, combining my photos and abstract paint or texture backgrounds. If you would like to follow my (almost) daily art posts, connect to one of my social media pages: Facebook (Art by Anita), Twitter, Pinterest and Instagram.
My dear wonderful mama has been after me to buy me something special. As if I need something for spending extra time with her. She can’t get it through her head that I am blessed to have the time to spend! At any rate, after ages of ‘what do you need?’ questions I determined that a tablet is something I could use. I’ve never had a laptop. I was the last of my friends to get a computer. And a cell phone. Just last month I finally bought a webcam. Always late to the game. Before I had a smart phone, I couldn’t fathom how addictive the technology is. Now I catch myself being one of the ‘phone zombies’. I need to reign that in. The lockdown made it too easy to get lost in frivolous stuff. But the main purpose of my fancy iPad Pro 12 tablet is to store my piano music. And WOW does it deliver. I’m in music heaven. These books are known to musicians as Fake Books or Real Books, you may have heard of them as Lead Sheets. Read about it in the link. I had many of these books in hard copy, but now have a digital collection of Disney, Beatles, musicals, standards, lots of jazz, R&B, Latin, Rock, Christmas, and classical. Literally thousands of songs. I downloaded a few books onto the tablet, but most will live in the cloud. Oh - and the art apps are pretty slick, too. I’m still learning my way around what I can do. Stay tuned. Thanks a million, Mom!
One of my paintings (Piano with High Heel) was included on this months Vancouver Mirimichi Flash Fiction site. The story is titled ‘My Mother Was an Upright Piano’ and is full of musical references. LINK They were seeking an appropriate image to accompany the story, and requested use of mine after it popped up in a Google search. Yay for the internet.
OK, so I didn’t get rich this month. No big jobs or big sales. But I feel rich beyond measure. It’s not about the money.
