Trucks, Storkel, Sprockets, Band Aid, Pot Party, Rhubarb

April in WI - Blizzard to heat wave in less than 10 days. Well, you can’t say it’s boring.
I was invited to join my client – JX Truck Center - in revealing art that was commissioned and gifted to THEIR client – Double J Transport in Jackson, WI. It was a very special day. The fabulous diamond plate aluminum frame was built by the Storkel Tool and Weld guys. We came up with the design together. The digital truck art was a big hit. I used a map layer for the background and a license plate with customized details as part of the design. This project was in the works for months. They even had a cake that matched the art! My mom came along for the road trip and we spent the rest of the afternoon visiting galleries and shops in West Bend. I have not been to the Museum of Wisconsin Art – MOWA - in years. Mom loved the Carl Von Marr paintings. The building is also a work of art. #winning
My 5 day exhibit at the Iron Horse Hotel sailed by too quickly - but it was truly wonderful to have clients, friends, a celebrity and family drop by for support. I’m hoping to get connected with future work for the 115th Harley anniversary and perhaps sell some work at the gift shop. Check out the new look for my website – Art By Anita. I went from 9 pages down to 4. There is a little fine tuning to do yet, but I like the cleaner and leaner layout. I also threw out 35 gallons of paint in my studio! Good grief. I started my painting business 20 years ago. This is the first time I’ve unloaded this much excess stock. Over the years people kept giving me left over paint – one was actually labeled “Yellow, Useless” haha. It was a weird shade and out it went. This is just the start of spring cleaning and organizing. The attic and garage need to be purged. And my clothes closet. And photo files. And the craft supplies my mom threw out that I could not let go of…sigh.
I had a really fun art day with good friends Alice, Amy and Marcia. We painted big terra cotta pots for the May Literacy Services gala fundraiser. It felt great to get in the paint – it’s been too long. Another fun stop was a visit to Rusty Sprockets Antiques and Sprocket Café. My friend, owner Juliet Popovic, sells the wares and runs the café next door, too. Great vibe and coffee. She also makes adorable naughty cards. They are hidden – so ask for them and tell her I sent ya. We own a piece of Juliet’s art – a lovely mermaid mosaic that hangs in a place of honor in the bathroom. Hint: Tom looks at it every day.
A few weeks ago, during the blizzard, local musicians hosted Kostia Band Aid (click for videos). It was a fundraiser for our friend Kostia - the warm and cuddly Russian fellow that I created the CD art for. The musicians tore it up. Kostia has since had a successful hip surgery, but there will be many weeks without work to recuperate. Most creative folks don’t have a health plan that covers pay for days off, so this will help get him through. Our generous music community under the organization of Ellen Winters raised over $7000! Way to go. I don’t understand how we can not get on board for universal healthcare in this country. If you want to get aligned with the resistance you might try this group - Indivisible. This is their deal…We’re not the leaders of this movement: you are. They are a progressive values grassroots network organized locally across the country to hold government accountable to all citizens. #resist
Alice hosted the pot painting party and treated us to a Rhubarb ‘dump’ cake. O.M.G. Delicious and simple to make. It tasted like summer. Here is the recipe...

Rhubarb Torte
5 c diced rhubarb
2 c sugar
2 eggs
6 Tbsp butter, melted in 13 x 9 pan
1 tsp vanilla
2 c flour
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp salt
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Mix all ingredients in the pan.
Bake 45 min or until toothpick comes out clean. Whip cream optional.
