Oct 2021 - mini art, Magic, ViF, VA classes, Zoom, Sophia 6, moth mural

Happy Halloween!
For a change I have advance notice for events instead of ‘after the fact’ reviews this month. You are invited to: an art show, a magic stage show and veterans photo exhibit.
Art Bar mini show - opening night Nov 5, at 7pm (thru Dec 30). I’ll be one of 150 artists participating. There will be over 1000 pieces of art! (Replenished daily thru 2021). All mini art is 8” x 8” or smaller and priced under $100. It’s a perfect opportunity to do some holiday shopping. Total madness ensues at 7pm when selling officially opens. Hope to see you there! I have a dozen abstract assemblage works. Good news - I sold my ‘Too Many Notes’ painting at Art*Bar Minimalist show last month.
The Houdini Club Magic Convention is hosting TWO magic stage shows at 7pm / Nov 5 & 6, at the Holiday Inn Riverfront on 4700 N Port Washington Rd. The show price is $10 to the public. Each night features 5 fantastic magicians – from classic magic to comedy acts. Tom Burgermeister is the MC for the Saturday (Nov 6) stage show, and he is also doing a set of magic. The rest of the convention is priced separately and has close up workshops, dealer rooms, and competitions. It’s for serious magic nerds who stay up all night drinking and showing off card tricks to each other. Sadly, the HC website does not have complete stage show information – but trust me there is a stage show for the public. If you log on you can get in depth details about the Tex-Mex lunch buffet, tho. LOL.
Veterans in Focus exhibit / meet & greet is on Wednesday Nov 12 at noon in the UWM-Milw Union. We were excited to have several new members with lots of energy and many of our regulars this year. I can’t wait to see the new guys receive their first art prints at the end of the exhibit. This is the 9th session we’ve done. The show will feature 48 photographs and viewing of the two slideshows I created from the June & October 2021 sessions. LINKS: ViF June / Vif October
My friend Alice and I just started teaching a series of art classes on Fridays at the Old Soldiers Home on the VA grounds. It is strictly for residents that live there. Our first session is with polymer clay, making marbleized style small coin dishes and covered pens. Last week we began caning techniques – a group project that combines elements from everyone and looks like a kaleidoscope. We’ll use the cane-clay to cover a keepsake box. Next up will be acrylic painting and then ceramics classes. It is so rewarding to work with and get to know the veterans in these groups. More photos to come.
Mama Elsa is zooming on her new red mobility scooter. We found a smaller / taller pub table to replace her dining room table so she has room to park. Grand darling Sophia turned 6 this weekend! Bouncy house, bouncy friends, pizza, presents galore, a magic show from Grandpa Tom and shrieks of laughter made for a fun day. If you are cruising in West Allis drive by the 60' whimsical moth mural on on 65th and Beecher. It was done by talented artist / muralist John Kowalcyzk. You can find his amazing and delightful art all over town!
Have a great fall, y’all!
