It’s beginning to feel a lot like frost bite. At least the mega blizzard mostly passed us by. Have you ever heard of Frankie McDonalds forecasts? He’s a hoot! Here’s a sample (shouting): “People in Wisconsin Be Prepared Have your Winter Boots, Winter Jackets, Hats, Gloves, Scarfs and Ski Pants Ready. Order your Pizzas and Chinese Food and Buy Cases of Pepsi and Coke. Do your Grocery Shopping Don't Wait until the Last Minute Do it Right Now!!!” He forgot the brandy, but right on. I’ve been busy getting ready for the Magnet Factory Holiday PopUpShop – Friday Nov 30 from 5-10pm. There will be some things old, and some things new, etc. I have new painted glass vases, holiday cards and lots of art. Hope to see you there! There will be 20 other art vendors at our location and Christmas on KK will be in full swing. YAY.
I was very pleased that the wedding art was a big hit. I ended up spending more time in the studio after the event to add extra detail to the painting and created a mini video to promote my services. Check it out. Last week I delivered the last of my 12 truck themed Fusion Foto Art prints with the diamond plate frames for JX Truck Center. What a ride. Thanks to Lisa and Rick who coordinated the project and brought me on board. They are great people to work with! Our collaboration is not done. They are opening three new centers in Michigan, and going forward the art will be given as a sales incentive. Here is a link that shows the art being presented to happy clients. JX Shining Stars
The Veterans in Focus photography reception will take place at Central Library on Dec 14th from 1 -3 in the Main Street Exhibit. If you can’t make that date, the show continues from Dec 3rd through Jan 3rd. Go visit our amazing and beautiful downtown library. MPL.org It is amazing how many diverse activities our libraries offer. Here is a calendar of events, programs and classes.
Earlier this month Tom and I visited The Hudson Business Lounge in the Third Ward. They have live lunchtime music on Wednesdays with my old friend Don Linke. And to my surprise the manager is the daughter of the lady who bought my parents house. They also have happy hour all day every day. Ah, Milwaukee. Mom and I went to Mayfair Mall at the end of October – decorated already for Xmas. Remember when they at least waited for Thanksgiving. Holy Retail. What would baby Jesus say? We finally saw ‘A Star is Born’ – decidedly a good flick. There were at least 4 versions of this movie. There are some good inside references to the early ones. Lady Gaga can really act, and Bradley Cooper not only directed, but he sings well and learned to play piano and guitar for the part. And yeah, he’s pretty dreamy.
To celebrate my birthday Tom took me to an early dinner at the Packing House. Steaks and Jazz with my baby – the perfect combo. And again on my actual birthday – happy snacks at Divino (great drink specials, too) and Jazz Estate guitar heaven. These two east side spots are a perfect combo - just a block apart. Then there was lunch with the Mom(s) and sista, Thanksgiving with the Burgermeisters, and fish fry with friends. On December 2nd we are going to gather and celebrate the anniversary of my dad’s birthday. We plan to get out the old photo albums and tell stories and laugh about all the crazy stuff he used to do. I think it will be a new Bukalders Thanksgiving tradition. Elsa and I are hosting a holiday singalong at the Landmark apartments on the Wednesday before Christmas, right after lunch. Stop by and join us if that’s your kind of thing.
November is the time that I pause and reflect on life more than at the end of the year. I know how lucky I am to be able to do what I love for a living. I have a loving husband and we have a roof over our heads – attached to our own little castle. We’re mostly healthy (other than our sanity) and so are most of our family members. Some of us are slowing down. I am much more of a homebody these days. But that’s cool. I work at home. It’s where all of our stuff is. We are surrounded by art, music, magic and love. For me, simple pleasures make for a happy life.
Hope your days are happy!
