What a week! I just finished uploading four vacation video slideshows to my YouTube channel – Art By Anita. There is one for Germany, France, Switzerland and a special one just for Paris - each about 12-15 minutes long. Tomorrow we will premier them at the Latvian Church senior lunch. YAY - Made mom happy. Will also set up a screening soon at her Landmark Apartments. In the meanwhile you can watch them at home on your computer in your pajamas. Hope you enjoy. We sure had a good time.
On Saturday I had a gig that I am hoping will lead to a new line of art jobs. Cross your fingers. I did performance art painting at a wedding reception! At the Grain Exchange, no less. I created a pretty elaborate canvas – 2 ½’ x 3’ – of the bride and groom dancing and architectural room details. This all involved weeks and weeks of emails, advance photos, planning, research, sketches, meetings and phone conferences, etc. to go over tons of details. The bride lost a sister to cancer several years ago, so we even found a way to include her in the art – as an angel on top of one of the columns! Eight family members were included watching the couple from the far side of the dance floor – luckily distant enough to be more impressionist in the art. Thank goodness I thought ahead about the huge amount of detail needed and created a full chalk sketch on the canvas in advance – or I would not have made much progress on site. Though it was light when I arrived, it quickly faded. And by dinner the room lights dimmed, and when the band kicked it I could not see anything. My color sketch and reference photos saved the day! For now I’m only sharing my sample sketch. After 7 hours on the job (and 4 hours advance sketching) I packed up and brought the painting home. There are a few lines I want to straighten a bit more, facial details to add, and slight color corrections before it gets delivered to the happy couple. Congrats to Jen and Tony! Their family and friends were delightful to engage with as they peaked at my progress throughout the night. Made it extra fun. One gal seriously said that she didn’t know who she was going to marry someday, but that it would be at the Grain Exchange and she wanted me to paint for her!
I missed my granddaughter’s birthday party while I was painting. Happy Birthday to 3 year old Sophia! I heard like she had a blast bouncing around at Monkey Joe’s. Her world revolves around Little Mermaid Arial these days. In other big news, Sophia's parents - Adam & Denae - just got engaged. Congratulations to you all!
I have an extra adorable piano student who turns 8 this week. Her name is Leila Hill and she is one of three finalists auditioning for a place on Colder’s Facebook Spotlight page. If she wins, she gets a short commercial spot and a cash prize. VOTE FOR LEILA HILL #ColdersSpotlight (share this link on FB to vote). Go, Leila!
My friend Chef Ana popped up this week with word about her new restaurant – Sweet Diner. It’s in the Third Ward and you have to check out the food photos on Instagram. YUM! #LifeIsSweet. She hired me for some events coming up and has already asked me to show my work at the next Gallery Night. #HappyArtist
STAY TUNED: This week we are editing the pictures from the latest Veterans in Focus class. Look for our exhibit at the Central Library in the beginning of December. I will also be in the Holiday Art Pop-Up show at the Magnet Factory on Nov 30th as part of Christmas on KK.
Book club is tomorrow and I haven’t cracked the book yet. Sigh. On the up side…there will be wine.
Hope your month wasn’t too frightening. If you don't VOTE, that's when things will really get scary.
