The Overview

Tag / Bake Sale - Big Success
A big thank you to Sue Stauffacher and volunteers for donating, organizing, baking, and setting up the Sale held Saturday. We raised over $1000 for the ministries of the Church.
Also thanks to Charlie Stauffacher for organizing the luncheon including food donations from the Southbury Stop & Shop.

Meetinghouse Roof Problems
You may have noticed that in past editions of eFaith Matters, there has been an opportunity to help out the Church by painting part of the Meetinghouse Ceiling in the balcony by the organ. Well, that project has been put on hold as last Tuesday, during the rainstorm, I climbed up into the bell tower and discovered that we have not one, but three leaks in the roof of the Meetinghouse! The leaks all appear to be flashing-related, where vertical boards from the steeple intersect with the roof itself. The Trustees will discuss the next steps which will probably include contacting a steeplejack to investigate and fix the leaks.

Living Beyond the Success-Failure Syndrome

by Henri Nouwen

I hope you stay close to Jesus in the midst of everything. Jesus is, as you know, much more than a story. He is a source of life and is truly able to touch you deeply so that you can go beyond the success-failure syndrome. I really believe that it is possible for you to develop a simple life of prayer that can give you that “holy indifference.” By that, I mean the place where you feel so truly safe and so well held that the ups and downs of your life aren’t able to distress you or excite you. I have personally found much help in spending a little time every day just repeating in my mind a sacred text such as the prayer of St. Francis, “Make me an instrument of your peace. . . .” When I let these words enter deeply into my consciousness, something new in me happens and I am moved beyond the places where exultation or depression dwell.

Henri Nouwen was a Dutch-born Catholic priest, professor, psychologist and prolific writer. He taught psychology at the University of Notre Dame and pastoral theology at the Divinity Schools of Yale and Harvard before leaving academia to become the pastor at L’Arche Daybreak, a community for people with intellectual disabilities. A master communicator, Nouwen wrote and spoke with great openness and vulnerability about faith, spiritual formation, prayer, social justice, and other themes related to the spiritual life.

We are receiving financial donations to help the fleeing refugees from Ukraine in Poland. We are working with partner churches in Poland to provide aid and support.
Checks can be dropped off to the church or you can use the online donation site to give. Please put Ukraine in the memo.
100% of all donations go directly to ministries on the ground without any overhead.

The coordinator foir this popular program is
Susan Zappulla-Peters (860-355-8830 -
zappullapeters@mac.com)
and an emphasis on the local grocery stores.

It is hoped that you would consider getting in the habit, like some,
to purchase your cards on a monthly basis.

NEW: The second Sunday of each Month will be Card Ordering Sunday.

We would like to have a set day so it is easy to remember to order
and easy for processing...

The concept is simple.
- You buy the card at the face value (ex. $100) and we purchase a cash card from the store.
- They charge approx. 5% less and the church keeps the difference.
- You spend the same amount, but by using the card, your Church gets a 5% benefit!!

We work primarily with Stop & Shop, Big Y, and Shop Rite cards

Contact Susan directly or speak with her on Sundays after worship.
She may have a few extra cards for the different stores with her.
