After a glorious Easter weekend, we have returned to a busy week with Netsuke, Glass and Photography workshops all running today and a weekend with our City & Guilds’ Printmaking students to look forward to.  Westhope really is a special place when it is buzzing with creativity and energy.  So good to see.
 
We have added yet more workshops to our course programme and the latest of these are featured below; we hope that you will find something here to inspire you.  Do let us know if there is a particularly craft in which you are interested that we have not yet included in the programme.

Creative glass fusing - Take 2!

Tuesday 24th May 10.30am - 3.30pm

Create a fabulous piece of artwork  for each using appropriate coloured glass and inclusions.
Along the way you will learn how to cut and handle glass safely and the general principles of glass fusing.

Collagraph

Thursday 26th May 10am - 4pm

Collagraph is a loose term meaning a print made from a collage.  Start by experimenting with a variety of materials that you can use to glue onto your printing plate, usually a piece of card or board.  Once your layers are created, your printing plate will then be sealed before using it to print.

A gleam of straw

Tuesday 14th June 10am - 1pm

Join Anne Dyer for this beginners half day workshop learning basic marquetry skills.  Anne will show you how to prepare your straw and then how to work with both inlay and onlay techniques.  You may choose to make a small butterfly or bird.

Wednesday 6th July 10am - 4pm

Join us for this fabulous workshop and make three or four macrame items to take home.  You will learn how to use the square knot in a variety of ways, along with the half square knot, reverse larks head and a useful binding technique.

Introduction to shibori

Thursday 14th July 10am - 4pm

You will learn some of the history and practice of shibori and the process for using indigo as a dye. Combine folding, twisting and binding techniques with the dyeing process to create a selection of unique fabric samples to start you on your shibori journey.

Experimental enamelling

Wednesday 20th July 10am - 4pm

A new workshop learning how to prepare a copper blank using opaque and transparent enamels, ready to use decals and Riso screens.  A really exciting combination of decorative media.

Macrame tote "bag for life"

Tuesday 16th August 10am - 4pm

Discover how the humble square knot can be used to create your very own "bag for life" with chunky soft twisted cotton.  Learn how to use the macrame square knot, binding technique and a reef knot to make this very attractive and practical bag.

Goldfinch on a teasel

Tuesday 13th September 10am - 4pm

Recreate a beautiful image from nature by making a lifelike goldfinch perched on a teasel.  The bird will be made from sheep's wool using the straightforward process of needle felting.

Metal forming and enamelling

Wednesday 21st September 10am - 4pm

During this workshop you will be taught techniques including shaping, bending, hammering and texturing metal. You will then transfer your chosen shape onto shim copper and finish by enamelling.

Macrame chunky wall hanging

Thursday 20th October  10am - 4pm

Learn how to combine three of the most used knots to create this impressive wall hanging. Discover how the humble square knot can be transformed into a bobble knot and how to half hitch with confidence. Learn how to create tassels and how to use the larks heads knot for embellishment. Your finished wall hanging will measure approximately 37cm across and 47cm in length.

If you would like to book a place or make an enquiry about any of these workshops, please call us on 01584 861293 (9am to 4.30pm).  Some workshops already have limited availability and we are adding more as quickly as we can.  We are open on both Saturday and Sunday this weekend for bookings and enquiries.  Do remember that, if you are not able to attend for reasons of covid, you will be offered a credit towards a future workshop. We hope that this will be of reassurance and give you confidence to make your booking.
