We know it’s early … but our programme of festive workshops is always very popular and some workshops are already filling quickly.  We have featured a selection of these below and will be adding more during the next few weeks.  Check back to our website here from time to time for the latest additions.

Lino printing cards and tags

Saturday 22nd October 10am - 4pm

Spend the day learning this dynamic way of printing and produce personalised cards and gift tags for the festive season and special occasions. Students will use their own design or image to produce one lino cut for a gift tag and one for a card .

Eco printed paper angels

Saturday 5th November 10am - 12.30pm

Two techniques will be explored to make decorative paper angels based around reinforced poppy seed-heads.  Use the Japanese momugami technique to manipulate paper and to create a new texture and appearance, and eco-printing to transfer intricate leaf images onto paper.

Festive felted robins

Saturday 5th November 1.30pm -4pm

Make a charming little robin to hang in your Christmas tree, using the simple technique of needle felting.

No prior skill required - just work with natural fleece and a special needle and off you go.

Scandi style willow decorations

Wednesday 9th November 10am - 12.30pm

A fun, half day workshop making on trend Scandi style festive willow decorations.  Learn a variety of weaving techniques with an assortment of coloured willow and other interesting materials.  Make a beautiful large star and a small reindeer for your wall or tree.

Colourful decorations

Thursday 1st December 9.30am - 12.30pm

Come and have fun making glass gifts for your family or to hang on your Christmas tree. Make a small colourful glass angel, Christmas robin or a tea light votive.

Woven rush hats

Tuesday 6th September 9.30am - 4.30pm

In this exciting one day workshop, rush basketmaker Rosie Farey will teach you how to make a fabulous made-to-measure rush hat.

Learn basic rush weaving techniques such as check weave and pairing and use these skills to make your rush hat on a special mould.  Add bands and a brim to make the style your own.

Gel plate printing

Tuesday 6th September 10am - 4pm

Spend the day experimenting with the exciting technique of gel plate printing. Create prints on paper using acrylic paint and a variety of found objects to make patterns then layer with stencils to create exciting colourful images.

Watercolour made easy

Tuesday 6th September 10am - 4pm

If you like the effects of watercolour painting but don't know where to start, this is the day for you. Using plenty of demonstrations, the tutor will guide you each step of the way to producing your painting, teaching you skills on the way for you to continue to use in the future.

Modern calligraphy - brush lettering

Wednesday 7th September 10am - 12.30pm

Are you interested in learning how to use a brush to create lovely hand lettering? This workshop introduces you to brush lettering using a paintbrush and ink. Learn the basic techniques and then have fun experimenting with your new skill.

Wednesday 7th September 1.30pm - 4pm

Are you interested in learning how to use a dip pen to create lovely hand lettering? This workshop introduces you to the art of modern calligraphy where you will learn basic calligraphy techniques and then have fun experimenting with your new skill.

Silver bracelet in a day

Tuesday 13th September 10am - 4pm

Learn the beautiful and ancient technique of Etruscan silver chain making and make a simple bracelet complete with a silver hand made or ready made toggle clasp. Start by learning how to make links with copper wire to practise your weave and then move on to silver wire to make your bracelet.

Goldfinch on a teasel

Tuesday 13th September 10am - 4pm

Recreate a beautiful image from nature by making a lifelike goldfinch perched on a teasel.  The bird will be made from sheep's wool using the straightforward process of needle felting.

Introduction to polymer clay

Wednesday 14th September 10am - 1pm

Learn the basic techniques required to work with polymer clay.  From conditioning, shaping, colour mixing and blending to baking and storage tips.

In this fun introductory session you will learn tips and tricks for handling the clay and its many uses, making basic shapes by hand and also using simple tools.

Drypoint with paper plates

Wednesday 14th September 10am - 4pm

The soft feathery lines of drypoint lend themselves to playful illustrations or expressive sketches. Learn how to make a drypoint plate using inexpensive laminated paper plates. Exploring your own designs and images, you will learn about inks and registration and also experiment with chin collé, a collage technique that can be used to introduce areas of colour during the printing process.

Let's draw

Wednesday 14th September 10am - 4pm

Drawing is not difficult.  It is fun, relaxing and rewarding if approached with an open spirit.  Ask yourself, can you draw a daisy or a house with the sun in the sky?  On this workshop you will be shown how to develop those simple skills and grow them into pleasing drawings.

Bath and body products

Thursday 15th September 10am - 4pm

A day to indulge in making luscious bath and body products.  In the morning, investigate anhydrous salves and balms with beautiful butters, oils and waxes.  In the afternoon we will turn our attention to salts, milks and scrubs, all made using natural ingredients and fragranced with pure essential oils or allergen-free fragrances.

Introduction to macrame

Thursday 15th September 10am - 4pm

Macrame is a form of textile produced by knotting techniques.  Join us for this fabulous new workshop and make three or four macrame items to take home.  You will learn how to use the macrame square knot in a variety of ways, along with the half square knot, reverse larks head and a useful binding technique.

Treasure boxes

Tuesday 20th September 10am - 4pm

Create a beautifully stitched lid for your treasure box using free machine embroidery and fabric collage. Find your inspiration in the garden and choose between flowers or a small bird for the focus of your design.
