BSFK Mediators Highlighted in Report

Today, the work of Balkan Sunflowers Kosova's Education Mediators was the focus of a conference in Prishtina sponsored by the European Union and the Council of Europe,  “Mediation in Education: Preventing drop out and fostering social inclusion of Roma, Ashkali and Egyptian children”. In 2014, the Council of Europe and Kosovo Pedagogical Institute came together to conduct a study on the effectiveness of Education Mediators. The results are positive: Balkan Sunflowers Kosova is making a difference.
Our Education Mediators program is always developing and this is just the latest step in its ongoing progression. The program began in October 2010 with support and cooperation of the Council of Europe and OSCE. We are extremely happy that the Council of Europe continues to be a strong partner to this day. We gratefully thank the donors that supported the program since 2010 including: the Council of Europe, the Czech Development Agency, the Embassy of Luxembourg, the Embassy of the Netherlands, the Embassy of Norway, the NGO People in Need and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe.
Our direct goal since 2010 was to keep more children in school at all levels. An indirect goal has been to prepare a strong program that would be evaluated, as the study launched today did, and found worthy of integration into the work of state institutions. One outcome of today’s conference was that government, school directors and teachers, other NGOs did recognize the success of school mediation activities and support the idea of it becoming government-funded and managed. Today’s conference was an important step in that direction.
Until that happens, the program will only be able to continue with additional financial support. Please make a contribution to this effort.
