Announcing C4's 2013-2014 Season!

Our Innovate | Elevate season showcases C4 in 3 concert cycles exploring themes of folk tradition ("Heritage"), music with strings, ("C4 x 4"), and music exploring the spirit ("Upward").

We'll open the season on November 21st and 23rd with "Heritage," featuring works by Stephen Stucky, Brent Michael Davids, and C4 composers Jonathan David, Joseph N. Rubinstein, Bettina Sheppard, and the work premiere of founding member Karen Siegel's "Shirei Shira." Joining us for "Heritage" as Special Guest Artists will be ENSEMBLE DANCE, under the direction of Pilar Castro-Kiltz.

On March 6th and 8th, we'll bring you "C4 x 4," featuring music for chorus and string quartet by Tarik O'Regan, Veronica Krausas, and C4 composers Michael Conley, Mario Gullo, and Martha Sullivan.

We'll round out our Innovate | Elevate season on May 29th and 31st with "Upward," featuring spirit-themed works by Eric Banks and Thomas Stumpf, along with C4 composers Hayes Biggs, Ian David Moss, Fahad Siadat, Perry Townsend, and more.

Mark your calendars now for Innovate | Elevate and join us for a don’t-miss season of some of the best new choral music New York City has to offer!

The New C4 Board of Directors

Until this year, C4 was entirely run by its members. We sang, conducted, and composed, but also promoted, organized, and administered. For many of us, C4 gave us our first opportunities in arts administration. During the last few years, however, we started noticing our community growing, not just in terms of numbers but also diversity and passion, and this year we took the big step of asking some of our knowledgeable and enthusiastic friends to take on the mantle of C4 Board of Directors.

We are thrilled to have a balance of current and alum members of C4 and others from the community, and welcome Hayes Biggs (Professor at Manhattan School of Music), Jonathan David (Composer), Gregory Eaton (Music Director and Organist and St. Ann's and the Holy Trinity), David Hurd (Professor of Sacred Music and Director of Chapel Music at the General Theological Seminary), Ian Moss (Research Director at Fractured Atlas), Karen Siegel (Composer/Performer), and Melissa Wozniak (Performer, Music Educator) to the Board. We look forward to their leadership as we move our collective forward.

Coming up in Early November:

C4 goes on the road to Tufts University!

We'll spend 2 days at Tufts doing composer readings, a choral conducting master class led by C4 alum David Harris, and a concert of "Stories From Lives," a program presenting music reflecting personal experiences or relating to the composer's heritage. Featured works include the premiere of "Caerphilly" by Bettina Sheppard, a piece by Tufts performance faculty member Thomas Stumpf, and works by C4 member composers Karen Siegel, Jonathan David, Joe Rubinstein, and Emma Lou Diemer.

"Stories From Lives" Concert:

Day/Time: Saturday, November 9th at 8:00pm

Location: Distler Performance Hall, Granoff Music Center

Tufts University, 20 Talbot Avenue, Somerville, MA

Tickets to "Stories From Lives" are free with a Tufts ID card (limit two per ID) and are $10 for general admission.

This concert has been made possible by the Granoff Music Fund.

C4 Artist "Friends:"
Making Publicity Beautiful

C4 is pleased to be continuing what we hope will become a tradition in featuring the beautiful artworks by members of our "Friends of C4."

This season, we're pleased to feature the works of Byron Gibbs for the entire season.

A born and bred New Yorker and graduate of Cooper Union, Byron made a career for himself in the advertising business, finishing that phase of his life as an Associate Creative Director for Saatchi & Saatchi.

His most recent works include manipulation of color tissue paper in various ways.  You'll see one of those collages on our season announcement brochure as well as splashed across the home page on our website, where you can also view the 3 concert images.

Byron will also be donating artwork which C4 plans to make available by auction late in the season.  We hope you'll watch for your opportunity to own one (or all!) of his beautiful works and help C4 at the same time.

C4 wishes to THANK Byron again, as well as past artwork contributors Linda Schrank, Anne Thulin, and all of the other Friends of C4 who contribute their time, talents, and presence to all things C4.
