A Moment with Pastor Luke
Hey Church! Carissa and I are beyond excited to begin this next chapter in our ministry with you all. The warmth we've already received has truly been amazing and we are pumped for tomorrow! One thing I would like to contribute towards this weekly newsletter is the addition of a pastoral highlight—something that has happened during the week to highlight where God is moving in my personal life, our church members lives, or even our community. I look forward to meeting each and every one of you to hear how God has worked, and is working, in your life. And so, with this first one, I figured I'd share how God moved this first week.

On Monday while driving on I-285, my front left tire exploded! Now there are few things more inconvenient than a flat tire, but I would definitely argue a flat tire has a compelling argument for one of the top. So, I made my way from the fast lane to the side of the road and got out to quickly change it. Only, when I went to get the jack out of trunk, it wasn't there. Talk about inconvenient! Realizing that I was in need of help, I started to look at passing cars—wondering if any of them would be a Good Samaritan to check out if I needed any help. No one stopped. After waiting for what felt like forever, HERO (Highway Emergency Response Organization) eventually showed up to help out, and I was so thankful! Not only did they have a car-jack, but after putting on my spare tire, we found out my spare was flat and they had an air compressor too! Once we were all done, HERO pulled the vehicle a little into the exit lane to force other cars to move over so I could get back onto the road.

It was, as I was continuing my drive, that I was reflecting on what had happened. So often I, and maybe we, experience something inconvenient, and feel we have the necessary means to fix our problem. At first, I wasn't very bummed by a flat tire because I thought I had a car-jack. It wasn't until I realized I didn't that being bummed really set in. Then, in reflection, Jesus reminded me of what I had read that morning in Deuteronomy 13:4: Moses tells Israel to "cling to Him". Here is Israel on the precipice of the promised land and Moses wants Israel to know where true security lies—by clinging to Jesus. Moses starts to outline how not to be led astray by false prophets, and urges Israel to listen, serve, and cling to God.

There are many false prophets today who want to sell us a false sense of security. Get this job, this relationship, etc., when in reality, the best thing we can do is cling to the God that loves us more than Himself. I am thankful for that flat tire because it reminded me that my security is found in Jesus Christ and I cannot wait until He comes in the clouds to take us to be with Him for eternity.

Happy Sabbath Church,
Pastor Luke
