Have you ever had one of those weeks where seemingly every day has something interesting to throw at you? This week I was chased by a neighbor's dog while jogging with mine through our neighborhood, and Thursday night Carissa and I watched as someone was arrested just at the end of our driveway. Some weeks are slow, some fast, some low-key, some memorable, some unmemorable, but as weeks go by, we get that much closer to Jesus' second coming!
In my personal devotions, I was journeying through 1 Peter, and as the Apostle writes to Christians enduring persecution, he gives this line to help orient their minds towards what is on the horizon. Peter says, "fix your hope completely on the grace to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ." (1 Peter 1:13). Now, some translations say "rest your hope", but I like the word "fix" more because it gives the image of action—almost like a handyman actively trusting all of his weight on the ladder as he helps repair the gutter. Peter, the apostle who knows what it means to trust in the deliverance of Christ—the apostle who walked on water—tells us to fix our hope entirely on the grace in Jesus coming to take us home. What a day of rejoicing that will be!
Speaking of rejoicing, we have a baptism this Sabbath! Caleb Bunch has chosen to surrender everything to Christ and will be baptized tomorrow. All of heaven is rejoicing at his decision to respond to Christ's love by accepting Christ as his greatest friend, only savior, and Lord of all. What a high Sabbath this will be!
So whether your week was slow, fast, low-key, memorable, or just another one on the calendar, we all meet the Sabbath one week closer to the coming of Jesus! And tomorrow we get to see that the Gospel is still transforming God's children more and more into the image of Jesus.
Happy Sabbath church family!

Please join us tomorrow as Pastor Luke continues his sermon series about God’s extraordinary love for imperfect people. The premise of the series is how the Bible is made up of individuals who were imperfect, yet God accomplishes so much through them by His Grace. It’s to help us embrace being human beings in process because God gives us Grace. Hope to see you there—but 6 feet apart! :-)
Family Photo Directory
Do you know every Alpharetta Church member by name? Do you know how to contact everyone? Likely not! To remedy the situation, and to bring us closer in fellowship with our brothers and sisters, we will be creating a digital, password-protected church photo directory! The first three Sabbaths of August, Curtis Hall will take a photo of you and/or your family after the service. We encourage all of you to participate!
Face coverings are encouraged on the church property for your safety, and others! Free masks are available in the Foyer. “Love your neighbor as yourself.” Matt. 22:39
