A Message from Mother Storm
Dear St. Nick's Family,
It is with profound gratitude--but also great sadness--that I write to tell you the time has come for me to leave St. Nick’s. I'm thankful for having had the rare chance over these ten happy, fruitful years to serve this community. I'll miss this wonderful place, and all of you very much.
A little over two weeks ago I received a call to serve, starting in late June, as rector of St. James-the-Less in Scarsdale, New York. This is a remarkable opportunity for me professionally, and also for my family. It's time for me to step into this new role and take on new and different challenges as a priest. While the four of us will be moving South for my years of work there, we'll still consider the Hudson Valley, which we've come to love so dearly, our lasting “foothold†in the world.
I have no doubt St. Nick’s will continue to thrive after my departure. We are a church that is diverse, young, nurturing, and inclusive in an attractive and growing community. We have excellent musical leadership in Dan, and an outstanding reputation in the diocese. Our vestry is superlative, as are our wardens. Our committees--finance, outreach, property, altar--are intelligent, organized and productive. Thanks to all our work together these past few years (and presently), we also have a solid, beautiful building.
Ten years ago St. Nick's welcomed me with open arms, as it has many of you in the years since--and as it will my successor. Yet it is a very different place today, stronger and more vibrant, a real parish in the diocese with the authority to choose a new priest who will be a good match for it and who will lead the community through the next phase of your life together.
I dearly wish I could share this news with each of you individually. I'll remain after church this Sunday, May 15, to be together and to answer questions about what lies ahead, both for me and for St. Nick’s. And childcare will be available from 11AM-NOON for those who would like to stay to talk. There or otherwise I hope to be able to speak with each of you individually in the weeks ahead. I'm just a phone call or visit away.
This June 12th will be my last Sunday leading services at St. Nick's (for some time now Naomi’s baptism has been set for that date).
Thank you all for your friendship, patience, trust, generosity and vision for this community, this church, today and always.
Warmly,
Astrid
