Dear Friends,

On October 18th the Uniform Trial Court Rules Committee (UTCR) will hold a hearing to discuss issuing a ruling that will restrict the presence of ICE officials in courthouses and we’re urging faith communities to email utcr@ojd.state.or.us and cc: Justice Martha Walters at martha.l.walters@ojd.state.or.us demanding that ICE agents stay away from Oregon courthouses.

Immigration arrests at courthouses throughout the state undermine the sanctity and protection of Oregon’s judicial system. These arrests make members of our community less safe and undermine everyone’s fundamental right to equal protection under the law. Together, we can keep ICE out of courthouses throughout the state.

Profiling migrants at courthouses is discriminatory and immoral. No court can operate fairly or effectively when people don’t feel safe participating in the justice system  – this must stop.

Email UTCR at utcr@ojd.state.or.us and tell them where you stand. Click here for the step-by-step toolkit which includes talking points and a sample bulletin.

Physical space at the hearing is limited to those providing official testimony on the proposed rule; we encourage you to sign up to view the hearing online here: https://attendee.gotowebinar.com/register/3642897929013267469

In solidarity,

IMIrJ
