Rising Tide Lifts All Boats | Spring Appeal 2021
In the past year we have developed new partnerships and collaborations with a number of organizations worldwide engaged in ocean health and discovery. Among these are three excellent Maine-based partners: the New England Ocean Cluster, the Island Institute and The Maine Monitor. As a global utility for ocean communication, it is a thrilling move for us to bring our collaborations closer to home--here on our beloved Maine coast. These projects will further amplify our voice through practical, dynamic services for a local audience that will result in greater understanding of Maine-based issues, regenerative practices, and viable solutions for immediate challenges.

New England Ocean Cluster
The W2O/NEOC Transforming the Blue Economy initiative is focusing on education, partnership, information exchange, and public connections as we collaboratively support the continued growth of the Citizens of the Ocean community. This is an expansive awareness-based project intended to fuse ocean-related economic development with ocean resource sustainability and cultural mindfulness.

The Island Institute
World Ocean Radio transcripts are now being run as a regular feature column in the Island Institute's Working Waterfront publication. Dispatches from World Ocean Observatory posts are chosen by their editorial team based on the topic's relevance to local Maine-based issues or within the broader view of ocean news.

The Maine Monitor
As part of The Maine Monitor's latest mixed media campaign, World Ocean Radio will now be featured on this fantastic platform for news in the public interest. The Maine Monitor is the investigative news brand of the Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting, founded in 2009. In a time when local news outlets have diminished, The Maine Monitor is filling the gap with in-depth reporting from existing Maine media as well as original content written by professional journalists with assistance from students from Maine colleges and universities. Look for World Ocean Radio on the Maine Monitor in the coming weeks and months!

The W2O is pleased to welcome Marc Angélil to our Board of Advisors. Mark is a practicing architect and urban designer at agps architecture, a firm with ateliers in Los Angeles and Zurich. He holds the 2021 Kenzo Tange Visiting Professorship in Architecture and Urban Design at Harvard University and is professor emeritus from ETH Zurich, conducting research on social and spatial developments of metropolitan regions worldwide. His most recent publication Mirroring Effects: Tales of Territory, co-written with Cary Siress, explores the socio-spatial impact of development-led urbanization on local habitats in different world regions today. Among his built projects are the headquarters extension of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) in Geneva. He is a fellow of the Bund Schweizer Architekten (BSA) and founding member of the Board of the LafargeHolcim Foundation for Sustainable Construction. We are pleased to welcome his council on ecological systems design.

World Ocean Radio is a weekly audio feature for web and podcast listeners, and for worldwide distribution through college and community radio stations and partners. Presented by longtime host Peter Neill, World Ocean Radio offers a unique perspective on important and relevant ocean issues. Our long-running series dedicated to ocean solutions, BLUEprint: How the Ocean Will Save Civilization, has run more than 40 episodes to date and outlines a new and sustainable path forward, with the ocean leading the way. World Ocean Radio is available for RSS feed and syndicated use at no cost. Find us wherever you listen to your favorite podcasts.
The W2O is pleased to be an Association Partner for the upcoming World Ocean Asia-Pacific. The agenda for the "Investing in the Blue Economy" summit will provide the platform for nuanced conversation and tailored discussion to catalyze the blue economy in the Asia-Pacific. We will support the December summit throughout this year by sharing event details, research, reports and news as it relates to the World Ocean Summit.
