Year-End Greetings from the WORLD OCEAN OBSERVATORY

Dear Citizen of the Ocean,

We are reaching out today to ask for your financial support for the World Ocean Observatory. We do this only once each year, just once in December when we ask you to acknowledge the value on our work, its range of content, its communications successes, and it larger contribution as an informed, relentless advocate for the sustainable ocean worldwide. Make a contribution today.

In 2015 we:
  • Produced over 50 editions of World Ocean Radio, with a selection translated into five languages, for distribution through syndication, podcast, social media, and other outlets worldwide;
  • Published Volume 2 of World Ocean Journal, a digital publication that is shared with all our visitors and audience. This year’s theme: Islands.
  • Kicked off World Ocean Exhibits as a new online space for digital versions of maritime heritage exhibits, allowing the originating museums to extend their interpretive success beyond limited time and place;
  • Introduced World Ocean Forum, a theme-based conversation about major ocean challenges and solutions; Our first major theme is Climate. Coming soon: The Arctic.
  • Completed our first book-length publication – The Once and Future Ocean: Notes Toward a New Hydraulic Society – to be released in January. The Once and Future Ocean argues for the ocean and the cycles of water as a new paradigm for living in the 21st century; and
  • Provided ocean information and educational services to over one million visitors to our website and to millions more through our network of partners and social media.
In effect, we have become a formidable voice for the ocean to a global audience.  Each of you has shown interest in and engagement with our work and we take enormous satisfaction in that response. Thank you.

But there is so much more to be done in 2016 and beyond, and so many more Citizens of the Ocean to be reached and enrolled in defense of the ocean and its essential contribution to the future of human survival.

World Ocean Observatory is now connecting millions of advocates for the ocean through information and educational services about the ocean and its contributions to our health, our well-being, our very survival. In 2016 we plan to do this and more, with your help. Won’t you consider a year-end gift?

Best wishes for the New Year, from all of us here at the World Ocean Observatory.
