INAUGURAL HEALTH EQUITY SYMPOSIUM — EVENT RECAP

Wellesley Institute’s inaugural health equity symposium, Advance 2019: Building Healthier Cities, took place on Wednesday, September 11, 2019. 150 thought leaders, 25 speakers, 10 sessions, 1 day - all to discuss what what we can do to create a city that thrives. The agenda was packed with exciting speakers from cities across the world  - with our keynote being Lord Victor Adebowale (pictured above).

We expanded the conversation by asking our in-house and digital audience to pose questions in person and remotely using the hashtag #Advance2019

The panel included international speakers, including:

  • Victor Adebowale – Chief Executive, Turning Point UK
  • Jeff Hebert – former Chief Resilience Officer, City of New Orleans
  • Atyia Martin – former Chief Resilience Officer, City of Boston

NATIONAL HOUSING STRATEGY SOLUTION LAB — EVENT RECAP

In the spring of 2019, Wellesley Institute was awarded year-long funding by Canada Housing and Mortgage Corporation’s Solution Lab Program to work collaboratively with building owners, tenants and stakeholders to improve healthy housing quality in the private rental sector in Toronto.

As part of this work, we held a full day forum on October 28th at Massey College for interested stakeholders, including landlord representatives, to discuss issues facing aging apartment buildings in Toronto and the impact that has on the residents in those buildings. the work continues to develop solutions to this complex and multi-faceted problem.
