Wow, what a summer!

And what a fall!

Congratulations to all our GO-SOLO alumni who premiered their solo shows this summer... including the shy  Lucie Pohl (featured above on the cover of the The Times), who followed up her 2014 Edinburgh Festival Fringe hit solo show HI, HITLER (which was just nominated for a NY Innovative Theatre Award for Best Solo Show) with her 2015 Edinburgh Festival Fringe hit solo show CRY ME A LIVERThe Mirror raved: "It's acting, it's comedy, it's brilliant...FIVE STARS!"

This e-newsletter is filled with lots of success stories like this, as we share with you some of the raves, award nominations and sold-out runs our alumni received this summer.  Sad you missed out? Don't worry! We're also sharing some coming attractions: many of our students are debuting their fantastic solo shows this fall!

As I'm in LA working for Disney, GO-SOLO Designated Teacher and superstar Christine Renee Miller will handle our annual Summer Rundown...

I'll see YOU at a solo show. Who knows? It might even be YOURS...

best,
Matt Hoverman

FringeNYC 2015!

As many of you know, participating in a festival can be surprisingly intense. You have limited tech time that is cut even shorter by a busted light board; your venue may not be ideal - especially with your new co-star being an unwanted piano; and the tasks of “load in” and “load out” seem impossible with the stringent 15-minute allotments. But by the end of your festival run: the lights end up shining brightly on your beaming performances; you find a new love for the piano; and you are filled with pride as you master your 15 minutes like a boss.

And fortunately, I had the pleasure of seeing so many of YOU perform brilliantly under these circumstances. Many GO-SOLO alums killed it this summer with a record 6 solo shows and 1 full length play being accepted into FringeNYC. I took this summer off from directing and was a kid in the candy store with so many shows to watch! I kicked off my festival viewing with Katie Atcheson’s funkalicious, honest, and hilarious play, VERANO PLACE. Then I got to see the showman of all showmen, Alex Maghoub in his touching solo show, BABA. The wry and witty Tessa Keimes Kim in her solo show THE BAD GERMAN brought tears and laughter to the crowd (and she effortlessly incorporated her co-starring piano last minute when she realized it was part of her set). Then it was off to see Jasmine Pittenger’s remarkable ass…I mean solo show in MY ASS (IN THE WORLD), as she opened our eyes to how young girls live across the globe. Finally, I rounded out my solo show tour with Felicity Seidel’s hilarious, raw, and beautiful performance in LUCKY CHICK. And I tried to see Lousine Shamamian’s SHAKE THE EARTH about her experience as the lesbian daughter of Armenian immigrants but a certain cookoo audience member, notorious for nabbing seats without paying, somehow got my seat. She REALLY wanted to see the show! And last but certainly not least, is a show I hope to see in the future – Anthony Sneed’s THE BUFFALO about fitting in as a teenager and oh yeah, as a Christian cult member.

Having the opportunity to see excellent work in this year’s Fringe festival was a highlight of my summer. It filled me with such pride to see your courage and humor as you all stepped forward, hard work in hand, and inspired audience members with every performance. Keep it up!

* Felicity Seidel will be performing LUCKY CHICK in the FringeNYC Encore series October 15 – 21st at the SoHo Playhouse’s Huron Club. For more details click here.

Other notable GO-SOLO Alums - Liz Sipes with BUG BITE, Douglas Taurel with THE AMERICAN SOLDIER and Lucie Pohl with CRY ME A LIVER - brought their shows to Edinburgh and garnered rave reviews and sold out audiences! Keep an eye out for all of these fantastic shows as they continue their runs in and around New York City.

xo Christine

p.s. Because our fall classes are all filled, Christine is adding an extra L2 on Tuesdays, starting Tues, Oct. 20th.
