2016 STUDIO NEWS
My interest in the tree-of-life continues, but drones, surveillance capabilities and civilian/military dual-use infrastructure have entered my cosmic landscapes. In my paintings the tree-of-life is variously under threat, acting covertly, signifying hope.
I am inspired by my M. Phil [University of Queensland] research into militarised technology, its effects and the rhetoric surrounding it - eg; night vision capabilities, airborne drones and accelerating developments in autonomous weapons. Whilst the M. Phil does not include my own work, my research topic came out it. I am thrilled that the research is now feeding back into it.
I call my paintings dronescapes or droned scapes.
