Parish Forum - Sunday December 9th - What is a Chasuble? The forum will be presented by Larry Alexander and will focus on symbolism found in the vestments, printed texts, and altar-ware of our liturgy.  Symbolism traces back to the very beginning of the Christian faith when being a Christian was illegal.  As we have become a more literate society, the knowledge of the stories and symbolism associated with these items is fading away.  Join Larry to bring an understanding of the symbolism behind this part of our liturgy.  The displays used in the forum will be set in the Parish Hall prior to the 8 am Eucharist (12/9), so please stop in.  There will be time after the Forum to view the displays.

The forum will begin with a brief intergenerational presentation about St. Nicholas, so the children of the Parish will start with us.

This forum is being hosted by Connie Middleton.
The Formation (Education) Commission will meet on Sunday, December 9, after the Parish Forum for a planning session in the Library, anticipating the presentation of another wonderful series of Parish Forums for the spring of 2019.  Every member of our parish is welcome to join this very important and exciting process, or to submit to co-chairs Bill Kosco and Truman Bullard personal wishes and ideas for these Forums, offers to present, or to participate in other ways.

We are almost finished casting for Twelfth Night.  Please fill out a form by Sunday, December 9! Casting closes on that day. We have  had such an overwhelming response and are almost filled.  Please look for an email with your casting information. Be sure to respond ASAP so we can plan accordingly.

We are asking all parishioners to complete a request form for 12th Night tickets.  These green forms will be located in the cloister and parish hall. Please complete the form and place it in the container provided.  Tickets will then be available for pickup in the parish hall after both services on each Sunday in December.

Newcomers' Welcome
On Sunday, December 16th all those who have been worshiping with us since the summer and are new to St. John's will be invited to a festive fellowship time hosted by the New Members' Committee. Please plan to attend this coffee hour so you can greet and welcome some of the newest people in St. John's community.
Our Sunday School program is growing, and we encourage your children to attend! Everyone is welcome.  If you have any questions, you can call Aimee in the office.  Each week there will be discussion questions given to you to help connect as a family!

A few new updates:

This Sunday we are celebrating St. Nicholas.  The Children and Youth are hosting coffee hour and we encourage to bring a goodie.  After coffee hour, we will celebrate St. Nicholas with  an introduction in Parish Hall followed by a story and some activities in the preschool room.  Regular Sunday School resumes January 13!

Upcoming Events:
  • Reverse Advent Calendar: Starting in December we will be collecting canned goods to give to the food pantry.  Start collecting your canned goods now and bring them in on Sundays starting on December 2!
    • There will be a few boxes in the Parish Hall for the children to deposit their canned goods!
  • Lessons and Carols- December 16th during the 9:30 service
  • Ronald McDonald House: On January 20 we need some children 12 and older to help cook dinner for the families that stay at RMH in Hershey!  Contact Aimee if you are interested in volunteering.

Greens Donations

To be included in the bulletins, all flower donations for Christmas must be in to the office no later than Monday, December 17th.  Please drop all completed envelopes (including the payment) in the mail slot in the office door, envelope below, or in the Sunday collection plates.
This is the Last  Sunday
Drop off your Books in the Cloister!

Again this year, SPY will be collecting books to give to each of the children who attended SPY last summer. Pick up a card from the poster in the parish hall with the name of a child and some book titles suggested by his or her teacher. Please return the unwrapped book with the child’s card to the collection box in the parish hall before December 9 so the books can be distributed to the children at school before winter break
