As we near the halfway point of our 2021 Stewardship campaign, I want to thank those of you from whom we have already heard. Your generosity and faith in the good that we can do as a congregation in the world is always a humbling moment for me as the current stewardship chair. Our Presiding Bishop Michael Curry writes in his new book, Love is the Way, the following:
"God may be the source of love, but people are often the vessels. Once you understand that, you also start to
understand that connecting to the Holy Spirit isn't about what we say in our house of worship on a Sunday. It's
not about whether we're in church on a Sunday. It's the community of love we create for ourselves and for others.
When that happens, God's there. That's God showing up. We're resting in God's hands."
The community of love is alive and present at St. John's and it is, in part due to the prayer and thought that each of you put into your annual pledge or gift to the church. Without that, we wouldn't be able to do all the things we do for our church family and in the greater Carlisle community. Thank you all for the myriad of ways that you are part of our community of love.
As a quick reminder, the theme of this year's stewardship campaign is "Sustain." We are not seeking increases in pledge this year, and hope that you will be able to sustain your contribution to our annual operating budget at the same level you did for the 2020 calendar year. To make things simple for everyone, we have various ways that you can respond to earlier communications. This year, you have three options for responding regarding your pledge:
1) you can complete a pledge card and mail it in even if you are planning on doing the same as you did last year. That’s fine – it is also an opportunity for you to let us know that you would like to change your pledge – either up or down.
2) You can go onto the St. John’s website and at the top menu bar in brown, click on “Support” and in the dropdown menu, click on Pledge Form and complete your pledge form in that fashion.
3) You can opt to do nothing. If we do not hear from you by November 23, we will record your 2021 pledge at the same level as your 2020 pledge and send you acknowledgment of that pledge or annual gift. As always, if you have questions about transfer of stock or utilizing you IRA for gift purposes, please be in touch with Alvin Blitz.
Thank you for all that each of you brings to our church community.
