Raise the Roof Timeline for this Summer

We have had questions about the length of the entire roofing and painting project.
Here are some important tentative dates:

The Roof over the Office, Library, and Preschool
6/8 through 6/19

The Steeple
6/15 through 7/3

The Roof over the Nave and Sanctuary
7/6 through 7/31 (2 weeks per side of roof)

The Roof over the Sacristy and Chapel

8/3 through 8/21

The dates above are tentative and may change because of weather delays.

Question that comes up... Why did they start painting first?  Talked to the painter.  He started with an industrial primer they use to cover smoke damage.  He does not want to get any paint on our new shingles! If he painted the top of the steeple last, he might get paint on the new shingles below.  He is working just ahead of the roofers and will then follow up behind them on the lift, when they complete an area. Those areas will then be touched up/final coats applied.

Good bye to the ugly orange stains!

South Facade of Steeple painting almost done:

Some historic restoration to the 150 year old eaves was needed, but part of the estimate:

Remember that the roads around the church (Irvine Row and Mulberry Ave.) will be closed during portions of the construction.  The courtyard will be off limits at times, because of heavy equipment and construction.  On any given day one or the other entrance may be closed.  Please limit your visits to the Church once it reopens for your own safety.

This year SPY will run in an entirely different format!

The campers will be attending camp at various other facilities near St. John's to insure that social distancing is strictly adhered to.  The SPY Board wants to make sure the health and welfare of every camper is at the forefront.

St. John's is going to remain actively involved in the SPY Program.  We have been asked to be the "Central Kitchen" for all the locations.  Miss Alice Arter will continue to manage the meals out of St. John's kitchen.  The meal program for SPY is critical to the growth and development of each camper.  Meals will be delivered from St. John's to the other locations.

SPY is looking for
SPY is starting on June 15th!
We have 75 campers who are excited for fun and learning and teachers who are ready to teach. Now all we need are volunteers!
To help ensure the health and safety of all involved, we are closely following the CDC's guidelines and recommendations for Youth Summer Programming.
Because of this, SPY looks a little different this year and so do the volunteer opportunities. Click below to find out more. Please consider helping SPY at a time when it is needed the most!
The outpouring of support we have received thus far from the members of our community has been very heartwarming and inspiring! Without your dedication and passionate commitment to impacting the lives of children, SPY's mission accomplishment would not be possible! For this we are so grateful!

Supplies Needed for SPY

The list of what we need this summer so that each camper has their own items is daunting and any donations are extremely appreciated!

SPY has created a sign-up sheet with all of the items listed in small quantities.   Please drop off supplies Monday - Friday at St. John's Back Entrance on Irvine Row 10:30am until 3 pm - ONLY.  The Church is still closed.  You will not be able to enter the building.  You must leave them in the box during those hours as the box will be brought inside after hours for security.

Here is the link:

There are other supplies our teachers will need that are not on this list.  Gift cards for Amazon or Walmart in any denomination would also be most helpful.

Thank you so much!!

Intercessions for Trinity Sunday, June 7
We pray for those who have died: God, whose mercies cannot be numbered: Especially accept our prayers on behalf of your servants, April, Susan, Bette, Marge, Roland, William, Charles, and Joe and grant them an entrance into the land of light and joy, in the fellowship of your saints; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen. (BCP pg. 493)
We especially pray for all families who are grieving and not yet able to bury their loved ones.
We pray for the human family: O God, you made us in your own image and redeemed us through Jesus your Son: Look with compassion on the whole human family; take away the arrogance and hatred which infect our hearts; break down the walls that separate us; unite us in bonds of love; and work through our struggle and confusion to accomplish your purposes on earth; that, in your good time, all nations and races may serve you in harmony around your heavenly throne; through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen. (BCP pg. 815)
We pray for the sick: God of heavenly powers, by the might of your command you drive away from our bodies all sickness and all infirmity: Be present in your goodness with your servants that their weakness may be banished and their strength restored; and that, their health being renewed, they may bless your holy Name; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. (BCP pg. 458)
Especially for  Linkey, Kaew, Cheri, Jane, Lori, Betty, Revena, Elaine, Carson, Gail & Jack,  Barb, Terry, Jeff, Jim, Terri, Dean, Mike, Martha, Teresa, Ryan, William, Felicity, Dave & Norma, Ivan, Colin, Helen, Joan, Donna, Marge, Regan, Jody, Todd, Joe, Marilyn, Kara, Ben, Kimberly, Rowan, Madeline, Greg, Sharon, Barbara, Jean, Tom, Hope, Jessie, Alison, Sandra, Syed & his wife, Pam, John, Jane, Megan, Charlie, Pat, Kason, Eleni, and Dominick.
Please pray for the recovery of Reagan who had neurosurgery this past week.  Reagan is the sister of Lainey and daughter of Zach and Katlyn Stout.  Lainey has been part of our Preschool Program.
Please pray for Pam Barney and Sandra Harding, both have moved in to new housing in the middle of this unusual time.  It would be wonderful if they could receive cards and letters from friends here at St. John’s while they adjust to new surroundings.  I have checked with both facilities and they are able to receive US Mail.

For Brian Rotz: O Lord, holy Father, giver of health and salvation: Pour your Holy Spirit over Brian; that, as your holy apostles anointed many that were sick and healed them, so Brian may be healed;  through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.  Amen.

We pray for those desiring guidance: Direct us, O Lord, in all our doings with thy most gracious favor, and further us with thy continual help; that in all our works begun, continued, and ended in thee, we may glorify thy holy Name, and finally, by thy mercy, obtain everlasting life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. (BCP pg. 832)
