 Stewardship Season

This Stewardship Season is an every member canvas. Have we received your pledge for minisitries?
Please pledge now if you haven't already. You may do so HERE.
In the month of November, St. John’s Episcopal Church:
  • Housed and sheltered the homeless of Carlisle for 30 days, including running a Men’s Clothing Drive for our guests
  • Celebrated the Feast of all Souls with a beautiful liturgy by candlelight and a luncheon for all the bereaved with sixty people in attendance
  • Children and Youth program taught the Godly Play lesson of the Holy Family  to eager children
  • Welcomed six different families who visited and worshipped with us
  • Held our first Men and Youth Choir Evensong with over 100 people who then stayed for a family style potluck
  • Your pledge makes our work of worship, fellowship, formation, and outreach possible.
  • Please pledge today so we can see how we can best serve the parish, community, and the world in 2019.

The week five totals are 119 pledge cards for a total of $285,025!

10th Annual St. John’s Cookie Walk  -  Update

Thanks to all who distributed posters around town.  It was a huge help to the committee. We are still in need of some more bakers and shift workers.  Sign-up sheets are in the cloister.
Next we need lots of customers. Please spread the word to all your friends and family.  You can even spread the word by sharing the Cookie Walk info right from St. John’s Facebook page.  Dec. 8 from 11:00 – 6:00.
There are pans and allergen labels in the parish hall for your use. A list of handy hints and drop off instructions are on the cloister table and were sent by email this week.
We greatly appreciate all who are giving of their time in so many ways to make this a success.
Sign -up sheets are in the cloister or you can contact Carolyn Freberg.   (
Our Sunday School program is growing, and we encourage your children to attend! Everyone is welcome.  If you have any questions, you can call Aimee in the office.  Each week there will be discussion questions given to you to help connect as a family!

A few new updates:

Sunday is our  Sunday School teacher commissioning.  We have some wonderful dedicated teachers who plan, teach, and support our children and youth each week.  We would love to have as many kids as possible in church on Sunday and in Sunday School to support our wonderful leaders!

Upcoming Events:
  • Reverse Advent Calendar: Starting in December we will be collecting canned goods to give to the food pantry.  Start collecting your canned goods now and bring them in on Sundays starting on December 2!
  • Intergenerational Advent Wreath Making- December 2
  • December 9 the Children and Youth are hosting a St. Nicholas Coffee Hour.  Look for an email with more information.
  • Lessons and Carols- December 16th during the 9:30 service
  • Ronald McDonald House: On January 20 we need some kids 12 and older to help cook dinner for the families that stay at RMH in Hershey!  Contact Aimee if you are interested in volunteering.
12th Night 2019 Ticket Request Forms

We are asking all parishioners to complete a request form for 12th Night tickets.  These forms will be located in the cloister on the Canterbury cart starting on Sunday, November 25th. Please complete the form and place it in the container provided.  Tickets will then be available for pickup in the parish hall after both services on each Sunday in December.
David and Ann Smith, Co-Chairs of 12th Night 2019

New Sunday Staff Position
Welcome Deeg Shank!

St. John's has been consistently understaffed for Sexton responsibilities of: repair, cleaning, landscaping, and building superintendent. Beginning Sunday November 18, we will have a Sunday Sexton to compliment the staffing of our Parish Sexton. Our Sunday Sexton is Deeg Shank. She will open up the building on Sundays and be a presence in the church, parish hall, and parish house until the buildings are closed at 12:15 p.m.
St. John's hosts the homeless of Carlisle all month long

The month of November starts to get cold. St. John's hosts the homeless of Carlisle every, single night in November. The actual program doing the heavy lifting is Carlisle Cares. However, each night we need a person or two from St. John's to assist Carlisle Cares for two hours as the guests arrive. This involves showing people the lights, the bathroom, and other simple hospitality issues. For more information, please call Terry Young at 717-580-8216 or To sign up, please click here or sign up in the parish hall on the sheet in the hall.  This is truly a remarkable opportunity to welcome the stranger in our midst.
Thank you so much for your donations so far!  On Wednesday the 28th at 5 pm (before Fourth Night) we are going to set some of the clothes and toiletries out so that the men can shop! It would be wonderful if some of the kids could come help set up.  Please continue to bring in clothes all month!
We still need a few things:

New Toiletries
New Underwear (different sizes)
New Socks (different sizes)
Clothes for a little boy (4t)
Christmas will be here before you know it!  Do your Christmas shopping  here.

Yes, you can purchase some very nice and useful items at St. John's.

    1.  There are Giant Foods gift cards available in $25, $50,
and $100 denominations.

    2.  Apple Butter for $5 a jar.

    3.  St John's Cookbooks for $10 each.

Any and all of these items would make great gifts for family and
friends - AND what about the mail carrier, newspaper delivery person,
hairdresser, barber, the neighbor who is always there when you need an extra hand, or the handyman, snowplowing or lawnmowing folks!
This will be the most convenient way to complete your shopping list
AND you will be making a donation for these St. John's fundraising
initiatives!  A wonderful WIN - WIN for this busy time of year!

Snow Policy/Cancellation

We do not cancel services, UNLESS THE GOVERNOR DECLARES A SNOW EMERGENCY which prohibits all traveling. However, events and services, Monday through Friday, are cancelled if and when the Carlisle Area School District either closes school or dismisses early.  The church building and the office are also closed. During a weather event, please put your safety first.  If you are scheduled for a ministry, a priest will find a substitute at the beginning of the liturgy. If you are driving to church, you will be aware that parking can be a big problem after a substantial storm.  It is recommended that you try to find parking in the indoor Borough parking lot off of West Pomfret Street and then walk across the Square to the church.
News from St. John's Preschool
Mark your calendars for St. John’s Preschool Holiday Party Celebration which is being held on December 3 from 5:30 to 7:30 pm at the home of Eric and Hope Comeau. Heavy hours d’oeuvres and a festive spirit are included in the ticket price of $25 per person. Proceeds from ticket sales benefit St. John’s Preschool. We hope that you will join us!

Tickets will be sold starting Sunday, November 11 and every Sunday until December 2 after the church services in the Parish Hall. Please see Commission members Cindy Mortzfeldt, Cindy Ludwig, Suzanne Cornman, Sandy Patsolic, Mary Ann Felty or Rebecca Schreiber- Reis for your tickets.

Results from the Preschool Fundraiser
Thank you to the congregation for their wonderful support of our recent pampered chef party for the preschool. We are so grateful for their kindness toward our little preschool. We earned just shy of $500 which will be used to support our scholarships, supplies, etc.
