 Stewardship Season

Next week our Stewardship team will make phone calls to those who have not turned in a pledge. This is an exciting time for our community in which we have the chance to renew our commitment to St. John's--or make an entirely new commitment. All parishioners received a letter in the mail asking them to consider prayerfully their pledge for this year. We ask every member to complete a pledge acknowledging their commitment to this community as it continues to be a place of worship and nourishment not only for members of St. John's but the greater community. Please have your cards completed by November 16th so the vestry can see how we will minister to you and the world in the coming year. Cards can be found in the cloister and can be dropped off in the office, placed in the collection plate, or mailed to St. John's.

The three week's totals are 100 pledge cards for a total of $203,104!

St. John's hosts the homeless of Carlisle all month long

The month of November starts to get cold. St. John's hosts the homeless of Carlisle every, single night in November. The actual program doing the heavy lifting is Carlisle Cares. However, each night we need a person or two from St. John's to assist Carlisle Cares for two hours as the guests arrive. This involves showing people the lights, the bathroom, and other simple hospitality issues. For more information, please call Terry Young at 717-580-8216 or tjyoung70@comcast.net. To sign up, please click here or sign up in the parish hall on the sheet in the hall.  This is truly a remarkable opportunity to welcome the stranger in our midst.

Potluck Following Evensong!
Join us after Evensong for a Potluck dinner in the Parish Hall. Please bring a dish to share or volunteer to set up or clean up after!  Contact Aimee if you are willing to set up or clean up after!  We look forward to the blessing  of Fellowship after our beautiful evening service.
Our Sunday School program is growing, and we encourage your children to attend! Everyone is welcome.  If you have any questions, you can call Aimee in the office.  Each week there will be discussion questions given to you to help connect as a family!

A few new updates:

We are no longer having a recessional dismissal. I will meet the kids for Sunday School outside of the parish hall.  The preschool kids will head upstairs with their teacher and the elementary and middle school kids will head downstairs for a small snack and fellowship game!

Upcoming Events:
  • Men's Clothing Drive: we are collecting, sorting, and giving clothes to the men from Carlisle CARES who stay here in November.  We are going to organize and distribute some clothes on November 14.  Join us at 5 on that Wednesday to organize and set some clothes out!
  • Reverse Advent Calendar: Starting in December we will be collecting canned goods to give to the food pantry.
  • Ronald McDonald House: On January 20 we need some kids 12 and older to help cook dinner for the families that stay at RMH in Hershey!  Contact Aimee if you are interested in volunteering.
Thank you so much for your donations so far!  On Wednesday the 14, and 28th  at 5 pm (before Fourth Night) we are going to set some of the clothes and toiletries out so that the men can shop! It would be wonderful if some of the kids could come help set up.  Please continue to bring in clothes all month!
We still need a few things:

New Toiletries
New Underwear (different sizes)
New Socks (different sizes)
Clothes for a little boy (4t)

New Sunday Staff Position
Welcome Deeg Shank!

St. John's has been consistently understaffed for Sexton responsibilities of: repair, cleaning, landscaping, and building superintendent. Beginning Sunday November 18, we will have a Sunday Sexton to compliment the staffing of our Parish Sexton. Our Sunday Sexton is Deeg Shank. She will open up the building on Sundays and be a presence in the church, parish hall, and parish house until the buildings are closed at 12:15 p.m.

Results from the Preschool Fundraiser
Thank you to the congregation for their wonderful support of our recent pampered chef party for the preschool. We are so grateful for their kindness toward our little preschool. We earned just shy of $500 which will be used to support our scholarships, supplies, etc.
