CICOLAB invites kids ages 6-12 to our LearninGarden
weekly exploratory Kids Koolaboratory
sandbox playground learninground
circle of fun, games and doing stuff together

#FutureLearningNow
    Hi Everyone!
Sorry for the short notice, unfortunately we’re unable to meet today. We’re brewing delicious bubbly treats for the next round!! Next week!! October 11th we're on.
Things have been taking shape in wonderful ways at the KooLab and its parent CICOLAB.
We are so excited to share more very soon !!!
Re-sharing some of the updates, links and ideas [BELOW] from our last newsletter in case you missed it would like to revisit and do stuff.... There’s plenty of fun things to do!
It’s of course much more fun doing them together ... and we will, once we have our bearings after Lauren’s house move and painting etc — Trisha also finds herself already in home schooling and mentoring mode, so we haven’t seen her for a while —
and Charles is mapping up a storm, readying for the next phase as we pull together the many fantastic ideas we’ve been receiving and exploring in our conversations and community.
    Stay tuned!! Circling back .....

Thanks to our dear buddy Pete Dowson in Australia, we have some fresh language describing what we're doing here. More to flow!

Co-learning pods:

Democratising world schooling to unlock unlimited possibilities

We used to take education for granted...

We sent the kids to school

and went about our daily lives.

We weren’t so worried about

our systematic approach to teaching children

or how effective it actually was for  learning.

But in March 2020, COVID-19 became a pandemic.

Schools and universities were shuttered and closed.

Children were encouraged to stay away.

All of a sudden, the kitchen became a classroom.

Parents became the teachers.

Nobody knew exactly what to do.

But we had one thing that could help us find a solution...

in a hyper-connected world, we had each other.

CICOLAB is a collaborative group of

Collective Intelligence practitioners

who are creating an equitable model for world-schooling.

CICOLAB believe that by exploring what they truly love together,

children are naturally curious to learn more.

CICOLAB aims to democratize international

and intergenerational learning for everyone.

CICOLAB is bringing together

-world class advisors

-innovative methodologies

-adaptive technologies

into a united and cohesive program.

The Collective Intelligence dashboard

allows everyone to explore topics and dive deeper

to experience decentralised co-learning together.

CICOLAB are now running a series of

experiential co-learning pod groups

throughout the week

around the world.

CICOLAB’s Co-learning pods encourage

participation through adaptive exploration.

Kids can get ready for the Sunday session by doing one of these activities:
  1. Draw a silly, creative pen like Sacha's, above. To find out how, follow the Domestika doodle class listed below. The whole family can participate! Make sure to take a picture of it to post on our Pinterest art board or to share during the session.
  2. Interview an elder and turn the result into any kind of artwork.
  3. Fold an origami animal to show to the group. We have a whole Pinterest board full of ideas for you if you need inspiration or instructions.
  4. Get off of Netflix and listen to a educational podcast (Common Sense Media recommendations listed below). Sacha and Leila's favorite is "Snakes vs. Spiders" from Smash Boom Best.
  5. Get on our shared website and post pictures (see details below).
Ongoing Activities
FEATURED: Leila interviews her grandmother Beverly about growing up in the American South as a kid in the 1950's.
We have set up a shared Google account to help us collaborate using various platforms and tools. If you're not already in the loop, please request access.

To ensure security we prefer to share information on (relatively) secure channels, such as WhatsApp, Signal or Telegram.
We have started making a Google Site:
http://bit.ly/koolab-home
for the kids to update themselves with photos and links.

Join and edit the site:

Do you want to learn how to draw better? We are simultaneously taking an affordable art course together called "The Art of Sketching: Transform Your Doodles into Art" on Domestika.org and showing each other our drawings.
In a neverending quest to find things for the kids to do to occupy their brains without screen time, we have found a list of kids podcasts for the kids to review.

We are using Pinterest to collaborate on image collections and to get ideas. Most recently we have used it to collect origami animal ideas for our future animal zoo, but we also have boards on art, design, and baking. Use the same KooLab Google account to login.

Join us on Miro! We are making collaborative boards with mind-maps, digital post-it notes, icons, and photos from the web.
