Enjoy the laugh-filled Spoons Tournament - Oct 24

Have a great time while supporting the Alberta Caregivers Association!  Spoons is a fun, fast, and easy card game... and the Spoons Tournament is a laugh fest!  Enjoy dinner with other caregivers and supporters of the ACGA.

Managing work and care a key issue for Albertans

A new report highlights the tensions and challenges facing employers as their employees struggle to balance paid work with the demands of helping a family member or friend with a long term health condition, disability or aging-related needs.  The report was based on focus groups conducted with employers and caregivers in the workforce.

The Alberta Caregivers Association will be using the report’s findings to develop tools and resources, including a web portal, for employers.

Upcoming Caregiver Information Sessions

Mediation and Restoration- Wed. Oct 21:  Join a guest speaker from the Meditation and Restorative Justice Centre. Learn about strategies, services and supports that can help families minimize conflict and resolve issues in caregiving. Afternoon 1:30 pm.  No evening session.

The Paper Dragon - Wed. Nov 4:  Learn more about what documentation caregivers should consider for future, emergencies, and caregiver protection.  Afternoon 1:30 pm.  Evening 6:00 pm

Guilt, Shame and Regret - Wed. Nov 17:  Learn to understand and manage some of the negative thoughts that may come with caregiving.  Afternoon 1:30 pm.  Evening 6:00 pm

How Pets Support Wellness - Wed. Dec. 2:  Join professional counsellor Ana Meger to learn more about how pets can support caregiver wellness.  Afternoon 1:30 pm.  No evening session.

COMPASS for Caregivers

COMPASS is a 9-module weekly facilitated program which encourages caregivers to learn to balance their own well-being with the challenges of caregiving.   Details for the upcoming sessions and locations will be announced in the near future.  Confirmed programs include:

  • Military Family Resource Centre - Edmonton Garrison - starting Oct 19 (for military families)
  • Sherwood Park County Office - Starting Oct 19
  • Oyen FCSS - Starting Oct 21
  • Edmonton - ACGA Office - Starting Oct 27 (full, but waiting list is available)
  • Red Deer - Central Alberta Brain Injury Society - Starting October 27 (full, but waiting list is available)
