Caregiver Alberta Updates....

Gearing Up for Fall
Yes - we are planning a Fall Self-Care Fair.  Save the Date - Wednesday November 7, 2018.  We will again have some wonderful self-care stations, munchies and we a SUPER DUPER raffle prize.  More information coming soon.  To see pictures from our last event CLICK HERE.

Summer Information Session via Phone Support 

In collaboration with the Edmonton PEGASIS project and the Southside PCN Senior Centre Without Walls, we have our second summer Information and Support Phone Chat on Tuesday August 14 from 7-8pm.
August topic "Good Grief."  Grief isn't only about when someone dies, it is a big part of the journey for caregivers.  Grieving takes a lot of energy so hear about ways to handle unwanted comments and recognize what changes and losses you have had throughout your journey.  To register please contact us by phone or mail or check our WEBSITE for more information.

Information Sessions - we are currently developing the schedule for Fall 2018 sessions.  Please watch our website for the complete FALL SCHEDULE.  These sessions are offered at our office location every other Wednesday (Sept 26, Oct 10 & 24, Nov 21 and Dec 5).  Topics this fall include: 
  • Paper Dragon (paperwork around caregiving like Power of Attorney and Personal Directive)
  • Guilt, Shame & Regret (managing those difficult emotions)
  • Laughter Yoga (Join Miss Lafalot to learn stress management through laughter)
  • Holistic De-cluttering (Join our guest presenter in discovering how to de-clutter while respecting special memories)
  • Merry Holidays?  The Gift of Self Care (learn how to take care of yourself during busy seasons)

Dog Days of Summer?

Staying cool in the
  summer
Keeping healthy during the summer includes knowing how to deal with the heat.
Some signs to watch for include:
  • dizziness
  • headache
  • muscle cramps
  • nausea
Strategies to deal with the heat:
  • Plan activities during cooler part of the day
  • Limit work/play in the direct sun
  • Remember to keep hydrated all day
  • Limit caffeine
Take time to rest in the shade (or cool off in the pool).

SPOR's defintion of "patient" includes caregivers, family and friends and encourages their involvement in the research process and the integration of research into care.

Age Friendly Edmonton - Edmonton Social Planning Council (ESPC)
Are recruiting caregivers of Indigenous seniors to determine their challenges, barriers, and opportunities in our city.
