July 2019

In partnership with Seniors' Centre Without Walls, we're excited to announce that we'll be running Phone Support Groups on the last Thursday of July & August. Caregivers of all ages across Alberta are welcome to participate, just call 780-395-2626 to register!

July's topic is Self-Care Through the Summer:

We often hear about self-care, or we are told to “take care of ourselves” – but what does this actually mean? It is anything you (the caregiver) do to take care of yourself - something just for YOU. It is NOT the things you have to do (like work, studying, errands, housework, caregiving). As caregivers we often put ourselves last. We see self-care as selfish and say things like “there’s no time, I'm too busy." But if you don’t take the time to care for yourself you risk suffering from caregiver burnout. Good self-care includes:
  • Physically (health and wellness)
  • Psychologically (stress reduction)
  • Emotionally
  • Spiritually
It can be done alone or with the help of professionals, groups, instructors, family, counselors, or even with books, classes, and the internet. We all need balance in our lives. Let’s talk about how to achieve that in your caregiving role.
We're looking for a Caregiver Advisor to join our team!

The Caregiver Advisor will help build a provincial community of practice for caregiver support, focusing on the self-help, peer support group model, and using a strengths-based community asset lens.

Interested? Learn more and apply.
If you’re caring for someone living with dementia, you need help accessing resources in a timely manner so you can cope without feeling overwhelmed.

Caregivers Alberta is supporting beta testing of a new Dementia Caregivers Navigation Tool – and we need YOU to participate! We are looking for current caregivers of persons living with dementia, who are comfortable using computers and smart phones, to help test a new technology tool that will help caregivers manage busy days, promote self-care, and offer better support to those living with dementia.

If you’re interested in participating, please respond to Johnna Lowther, our Provincial Program Lead at: or phone direct 587-415-8999
