Dear Subscriber

At the time of penning this newsletter, we had been experiencing soaring temperatures which were leaving many of us gasping for a breath of fresh air. That's changed and we are now seeing Storm Evert here in the UK. We hope wherever you may be, that you are well and enjoying the summer so far (despite the weather).

This offering is more of a bumper read and brings you:

  • Details of our informal chat on 11 August
  • Meet the Team - introducing another member of our development team
  • Other news - items that may be of interest to our readers
  • Poem on Compassion

Hoping we get to meet either virtually online or through your interaction on our Facebook page.

At July's informal chat, Development Team member Wendy shared the following poem. She has given permission for it to be reproduced here.

The practice of compassion,
Innate, amidst the murky depths of ignorance
Stirs, when confronted with a child who is hurt or sad, wishing to relieve that pain with kindness, sensitivity and understanding,
To bond, to share, stirring higher level feelings, rising above the initial hurt
The power of a being to recognize another’s needs and suffering,
Is but a reflection of our own potential to suffer
The discomfort of compassion drives us to alleviate others suffering with charity, warmth, and consideration
Embrace the discomfort and the quivering heart and let it power us on to awareness of others sufferings, that we may alleviate them where possible with gentleness and warmth
Be aware of our shrinking back from suffering due to fear and intolerance, instead watch our response and calm those responses with the balm of tolerance, generosity and love
Tease out the fibre of our humanity, knitting it into compassion
Aspiring to sympathy, warmth and generosity of spirit in relieving the suffering of other beings
Seeds of kindness become more prolific within the individual and grow and bear fruit over time
Helping one let go of one’s own harmful negative emotions
This is the substance of Bodhisattvas.
