Agriculture Secretary William D. Dar led the turnover of Golden Rice seeds for wet season cropping in a small ceremony held at the DA-PhilRice Central Experiment Station in the Science City of Muñoz, Nueva Ecija on May 6, 2022. The Golden Rice seeds are of the Malusog 1 variety.
Central Luzon State University (CLSU) has partnered with PhilRice for the expansion of the Golden Rice seed production in the province with seed produce to be distributed among farmers in Nueva Ecija.

Ilocos rice fields soon to glow with Golden Rice
Various government institutions and agencies were convened in Ilocos Norte and Pangasinan to enjoin their support in advocating the production and consumption of Golden Rice. Stakeholders' meetings were held in DA-PhilRice Batac in Ilocos Norte and at the Provincial Resorts Hotel in Lingayen, Pangasinan to discuss the deployment of Golden Rice in the two provinces.
According to Ms. Hazel Jane Orge, OIC branch director of DA-PhilRice in Ilocos Region, the production of Golden Rice is aligned with the efforts of the government toward the attainment of food security.

Golden Rice technical briefing and handover held in Isabela
DA-PhilRice and the International Rice Research Institute conducted a stakeholders’ technical briefing and orientation on Golden Rice in Isabela on May 6, 2022 at the branch station in San Mateo.
DA-PhilRice Isabela Branch Director Joy Bartolome Duldulao led the handover of Golden Rice seeds to farmer cooperators from the province. A ceremonial signing of the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) in partnership with DA-RFO 1, PLGU Isabela, and other stakeholders was also held.
Provincial Agriculturist Marites Frogoso reiterated the provincial government's support for Golden Rice, noting that it is a product of local research that can be integrated in the local nutrition programs to help improve the nutrition intake of Vitamin-A deficient populations.

Pangasinan green lights seed production of Golden Rice
The Golden Rice Program conducted a stakeholders meeting in Pangasinan to brief them about the deployment plans. The briefing was held on May 16, 2022 at the Provincial Capitol Resort Hotel, Lingayen, Pangasinan.
Representatives from the provincial and municipal government units expressed their full support as they were selected as sites for seed expansion.
Ms. Wylibeth N. Lumpias, Nutrition Officer II of the National Nutrition Council in Region 1 presented the status of nutrition for the stakeholders to further appreciate the need for complementary interventions in addressing malnutrition. Some of the participants also include the Department of Agriculture Regional Field Office 1 (DA-RFO 1) and the DA - Bureau of Plant Industry - National Seed Quality Control Services Region 1 (DA BPI-NSQCS 1).
Ms. Dalisay Moya, provincial agriculturist of Pangasinan, strongly suggested proceeding with the seed production for Golden Rice as they are ready to help the health and nutrition sector by promoting and cultivating Golden Rice to prevent the increase of malnutrition cases in the province.

DA-PhilRice eyes Lanao Norte as Golden Rice production area
CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – To promote awareness and consumption of Golden Rice in region 10, the Department of Agriculture – Regional Field Office 10 (DA-RFO 10) through Regional Executive Director Carlene C. Collado in collaboration with DA-Philippine Rice Research Institute (DA-PhilRice) held a stakeholders meeting on May 17, 2022, this city.
DA-PhilRice Agusan Branch Director, Dr. Caesar Joventino M. Tado stated that said event aims to introduce and seek support from different stakeholders in the region on the production and deployment of Golden Rice.

Ready, Set, Go for Gold
“Golden Rice is safe for consumption just like all other rice varieties,” Dr. Ronan G. Zagado, Program Leader of the Golden Rice Program, assured DA-PhilRice staff at the technical briefing on Golden Rice conducted on May 19, 2020, at the DA-PhilRice Agusan Experiment Station.
As the DA-PhilRice Golden Rice Program in collaboration with the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) continues its establishment of deployment plans for the region, all staff of the DA-PhilRice Agusan are enjoined to learn and share information about Golden Rice and its benefits.

PIA highlights the Farmers and Fisherfolk Month celebration and the Golden Rice
The Philippine Information Agency Region 10 highlighted the Farmers’ and Fisherfolks’ Month Celebration and the Golden Rice during the Talakayan sa PIA held on May 17, 2022 at SM Downtown Premier, Cagayan de Oro City.
“Here in Region 10, the department chose Lanao del Norte as the first province to identify a farmer cooperative that will plant the Golden Rice and eventually distribute their produce to households with malnutrition incidence, particularly vitamin A deficiency” said Dr. Ronan Zagado, program leader of Golden Rice-Project Management Office at DA-PhilRice.

Qurino is ready for Golden Rice
As one of the selected pilot deployment sites for seed and grain production of Golden Rice, the Golden Rice Program led by DA-PhilRice Isabela Branch Director Joy Bartolome A. Duldulao introduced Golden Rice and its deployment plan to stakeholders in the province of Quirino on May 20, 2022 at the Provincial Agriculture Office Hall, Cabarroguis, Quirino.
“I know that this project would be a big help to us,” Ms. Florence Mangoba, provincial agriculturist, remarked during the stakeholders meeting. “We know the importance of Golden rice to help combat vitamin A deficiency (VAD). Thank you very much for including the province of Quirino in this project.”
Other stakeholders likewise expressed strong support for Golden Rice commercialization in Quirino, and welcomed this new technology which can be sustainable, safe, and healthy for rice consumers, especially those who need it the most.

Media Briefing on Golden Rice conducted in Caraga
In support of the deployment of Golden Rice in Caraga, the Department of Agriculture Regional Field Office 13 held a media briefing on May 20, 2022 to spread awareness regarding Golden Rice and its potential to be an additional intervention to help address vitamin A deficiency.
Mr. Christopher Lindo, chair of the Regional Agriculture and Fishery Council, expressed his support towards Golden Rice. Lindo said that the RAFC will endorse Golden Rice to the rice industry sector to encourage more farmers to use other rice varieties that will benefit the consumers in the region.
Local media who attended the briefing were UniTV, Radyo Pilipinas Butuan, Net TV News, DXBC Butuan and others.

MAFAR supports DA Golden Rice Program in Maguindanao
COTABATO CITY— The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Agrarian Reform (MAFAR) expressed its full support to the Golden Rice Program of DA-PhilRice that is set to be implemented in the Municipality of Sultan Mastura in Maguindanao province.
“One of the strategies to ensure the implementation of the Golden Rice project in Maguindanao is holding an event like the stakeholders meeting so that we can tap all concerned agencies on information dissemination to farmers,” as stated by MAFAR Provincial Director Dr. Ronjamin Maulana during the Regional Stakeholders Meeting held in Cotabato City on May 24, 2022.

A Forum on Communicating Plant Breeding Innovations
The public is invited to a Forum on "Communicating Plant Breeding Innovations," organized by the University of the Philippines Los Banos. Resource speakers Dr. Kevin M. Folta, Dr. Eduardo C. Fernandez, Dr. Lourdes D. Taylo, and Golden Rice Program Lead Dr. Ronan G. Zagado. The forum will be held on June 7 at 9:00am via Zoom.
