OGP, SDG Target 16.10 and the Right To Information

 
On the occasion of the Paris Summit of the Open Government Partnership (OGP), an international movement bringing together States and civil society actors to promote greater openness, accountability and citizen participation, it is worth having another look at the relationship between the OGP, Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) Target 16.10 and the right to information. These international forums provide a number of interesting opportunities for civil society and the media to promote the right to information.

Perugia International Journalism Festival

 
The International Journalism Festival (IJF) is one of the biggest media events in Europe, held every year in the historic town centre of Perugia in Italy. In 2016 the five-day festival hosted 549 speakers from 34 different countries. The eleventh edition of IJF is scheduled to be held from 5-9 April 2017 and it provides an excellent opportunity for visibility and networking with media professionals from across the world. The media development community will benefit from better representation in Perugia and GFMD members are encouraged to apply and propose sessions for the festival.

MDIF Launches Blended-Value Media Loan Fund with Sida-Backed First-Loss Protection

 
New York, November 16, 2016: Media Development Investment Fund (MDIF) today announced the launch of MDIF Media Finance I, a blended-value loan fund for independent news media companies in select emerging and frontier markets.

In a ground-breaking partnership MDIF, a New York-based investment fund for media companies in countries where access to information is limited, and the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) are providing investors with 55% first-loss protection.

C4D Network Annual Meeting in Brussels on 7 December 2016

 
GFMD members, colleagues, and friends are cordially invited to a C4D Network (Communication for Development) annual meeting in Brussels on 7 December to grab a drink, meet, share and discuss C4D. 
 
The C4D Network Challenge has been meeting globally in more and more countries each year - in 2015 it was nearly 20 countries, and this year the hope is to achieve a target of 30.
