GFMD Traveled to Tunis for IPDCtalks to Mark IDUAI 2018

Our own Navya Hebbar joined right to know (RTK) advocates, journalists, and many others on 27 September in Tunis, Tunisia, for UNESCO’s IPDCtalks conference. The event also served as an opportune occasion to mobilise the international community to discuss and promote media development in developing countries. GFMD to Host Session at FoME Symposium 2018

GFMD is organising a session on day two during the annual Forum Media and Development (FoME) Symposium, which will be held from 22-23 November at Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung in Berlin, Germany. This year's symposium will focus on media capture, and GFMD Director Mira Milosevic will facilitate a discussion about the sustainability of local journalism by optimistic, pessimistic, and neutral journalists from Serbia, Egypt, and Ukraine. [Members Only] GFMD's Capacity Building Programme to Host First Webinar in October

The first webinar in the GFMD members-only series titled "Writing Successful Proposals for Media Development Projects" will be offered on 18 October and 23 October at 15:00 CEST/Brussels time on each day. Facilitated by Michael Randel, the webinar will highlight and explore the key ingredients for success when writing applications for grant funding.

Working Group on Internet Governance and Media Development to Meet at IGF 2018 on 12 November

First convened last year in Geneva, the Working Group on Internet Governance and Media Development will meet once again at the 13th Internet Governance Forum (IGF) in Paris, France, on 12 November. Join GFMD, CIMA, UNESCO, and other media development stakeholders as we launch an issue paper we wrote collaboratively over the past nine months, and devise an engagement strategy for the next 9-12 months. The meeting is open to anyone, but we kindly ask that you register.

Kabiru Yusuf Named Africa Media Initiative Chairman

Malam Kabiru Yusuf was appointed the new chairman of the African Media Initiative (AMI), taking over the role from the late Wale Aboderin. In a recent statement, AMI's chief executive, Dr. Roukaya Kasenally, said Yusuf would be an asset to the organisation, bringing power and success to Nigeria’s media market, as well as to wider the West African region.

Supporting the Quality of Journalism in Today's Digital Age

In response to the myriad challenges facing journalism and the news industry, the the Council of Europe’s Committee of Experts on Quality Journalism in the Digital Age (MSI-JOQ), met for the second time in Strasbourg at the end of September. An Introduction to Funding for Journalism and Media 

Growing concern from international donors about the threats to press freedom and the freedom of expression has produced a fresh wave for support for funding to help this cause. Simultaneously however, financial blockers to enter into the journalism field have never been lower than they are at present. This new funding scheme developed by Ariadne and the Transparency and Accountability Initiative aims to provide funders with the knowledge of key issues relating to the media worldwide.
