Al Jazeera Center For Public Liberties & Human Rights, Qatar

The Public Liberties and Human Rights Centre was founded on November 1, 2008 as a "desk" within Al Jazeera. Today it is staffed by a diverse team which works across different areas of the network. Our editorial team operates on all of Al Jazeera's platforms and in all of the network's languages. The journalists produce original stories and content examining human rights issues around the world, complimenting the network's hard-hitting news.


Centre For Law and Democracy, Canada

The Centre for Law and Democracy believes in a world in which robust respect for all human rights underpins strong participatory democracy at all levels of governance – local, national, regional and international – leading to social justice and equality. 

Transitions Online, Czech Republic

Transitions (TOL) is a nonprofit organization established to strengthen the professionalism, independence and impact of the news media in the post-communist countries of Europe and the former Soviet Union. We do this through a combination of journalism and media training programs, and the publication of Transitions Online magazine.



Detector Media, Ukraine

Detector Media think-tank (formerly Telekritika), is a Kyiv-based NGO. Detector Media was the first organisation to publish a complex research of the Russian propaganda in Ukraine as well conduct a disinformation impact assessment


Internews Ukraine

Internews Ukraine is one of the leading media NGOs, working in Ukrainian media and communication market since 1996. The mission of the organization consists in promoting European values in Ukraine through development of successful media. The organization empowers independent and pluralistic media in Ukraine, improves journalism standards and local media legislation and assists the development of full-fledged democracy and civil society in the country.

The Danish Egyptian Dialogue Institute (DEDI), Egypt

The Danish Egyptian Dialogue Institute (DEDI) is an intergovernmental body with a strong dialogue mandate under the Danish Arab Partnership Programme (DAPP). Established in 2004, DEDI's core mandate as a centre of excellence is to promote political and cultural understanding between Denmark and Egypt and Europe and the Arab World. Dialogue expertise cuts across all activities, detailed in the Agreement establishing DEDI as conferences, seminars, publications, projects and programmes.

Fundacion para el periodismo is not governed by any ideological, political racial or religious commitments. The principles and ethics that guide our activities are those advocated by serious, independent and responsible journalism. FPP promotes the qualities of good citizenship and the practice of quality journalism through the training of new and working journalists as well as reflection upon themes relevant to the profession of journalism, society, and human rights.


Jakarta World Forum collaborative sessions: New initiatives and reports

CIMA-DWA Asia consultation: Beyond media development
The media in Southeast Asia face a host of issues. A list of challenges was compiled by a group of 19 Southeast Asian media experts who recently gathered for a regional consultation organized by the US-based Center for International Media Assistance (CIMA) and Germany's DW Akademie.

MENA coordination: MedMedia Project
The EU-funded MedMedia project facilitated a session to improve coordination between organisations currently active in the MENA region – an initiative which was launched at a regional conference in Brussels in June. Delegates at the Jakarta meeting gathered to consider a proposal to establish an expert group which could engage with the donor community and provide regular insight into the needs and priorities of media stakeholders on the ground.

Invitation to submit nominations for the 2017 UNESCO/ Guillermo Cano World Press Freedom Prize

The UNESCO/ Guillermo Cano World Press Freedom Prize is intended to “honour a person, organization or institution that has made a notable contribution to the defence and/or promotion of press freedom anywhere in the world, especially if this involved risk. Member States and international and regional professional and non-governmental organizations working in the field of journalism and freedom of expression may nominate candidates for the Prize”.

International Media Support Publication - Constraints and opportunities – What is the role of media development in the countering violent extremism agenda?

Media developers around the world work with institutions, organisations and individuals to ensure reliable and professional information is available to communities and to spark and encourage responsible debate that is key to good governance. By extension the fight against terrorism, and countering violent extremism (CVE) stresses the importance of media development.

GFMD member Al Jazeera Centre for Public Liberties and Human Rights (PLHR) invites support for the International Declaration on The Protection of Journalists

The past few years have seen the worst cases of impunity against journalists. During the drafting of this Declaration, Al Jazeera lost six of its correspondents working in Syria. The initiative came about as a need to develop an international system to protect journalists. The International Declaration on the Protection of Journalists, prepared by the Al Jazeera Centre for Public Liberties and Human Rights, in collaboration with the International Press Institute (IPI), the African Media Initiative (AMI), and the International News Safety Institute (INSI), was presented at the 2016 Jakarta World Forum for Media Development by Dr. Hassan Saeed Elmogummer Taha, Head of PLHR Partnerships and Research.

CFI- concours Afrique Innovation: 1 million de dollars pour soutenir l'innovation des médias en ligne

CFI, l'agence française de coopération médias, est heureux d'annoncer le lancement du concours Afrique Innovation, qui attribuera une enveloppe d'1 million de dollars: le plus important concours jamais organisé pour encourager la révolution numérique sur le continent africain et soutenir l'innovation des médias en ligne.
Ce concours fait suite à une série de hackatons, MOOC et stages d'accélération proposés en 2015 par CFI et Code for Africa dans 13 pays du continent, afin de repérer et entraîner les webjournalistes et développeurs web locaux.
