Concrete Canvas Focus on: Roads
View this email in your browser
Concrete Canvas® (CC) is a flexible concrete impregnated fabric that hardens on hydration to form a thin, durable and water proof concrete layer. Essentially it's concrete on a roll, and is widely used in the Road Sector for a variety of applications including, but not limited to channel lining, slope protection and weed suppression.
M32 Case Study
In February 2016, Concrete Canvas® (CC) was installed as a high erosion concrete protection layer to a near road side drainage channel as part of construction works of a new 35m span bridge over the existing M32 motorway in Bristol. The bridge is designed to be bus only traffic and forms part of MetroBus: a joint project between Bristol City Council, North Somerset Council and South Gloucestershire Council. A case study of the installation at the M32 can be downloaded by clicking the picture above.
Bexhill to Hastings Link Road Case Study
In April 2015, Concrete Canvas® (CC) was used to line a ditch next to the new Bexhill to Hastings link road. A drainage route was needed to take surface water runoff to a local watercourse. Initially a large diameter pipe was specified, however the poor ground conditions would have required significant temporary works and heavy machinery, increasing costs. Rigid plastic ditch liners were also considered but these were also ruled out because of the cost of preparation works needed.  A case study of the installation can be downloaded by clicking the picture above.
A38 Case Study
In February 2015, Concrete Canvas® (CC) was used to line a 1.5m deep and up to 4m wide ditch next to the A38 Drumbridges Roundabout, Heathfield, Devon, UK. The ditch had to be moved from its original location to allow for a dedicated left turn lane to be added to the roundabout. The ditch needed to be low maintenance and able to cope with the high flow rates that occur during the wetter months of the year. A case study of the installation at the A38 can be downloaded by clicking the picture above.
