Sustainable Milton Presents:  a series of Green Home Conversations

In October 2018 the IPCC told the world we need to reduce carbon emissions 50% by 2030 and reach carbon neutrality by 2050 to avoid cascading, negative effects of climate change. Meanwhile, Milton homes account for more than half of all CO2 emitted within the town (56%).

It's easy to get overwhelmed by news such as this.  What can any of us do?

Please join Sustainable Milton as we kick-off a series of quarterly presentations and conversations about Greening our Homes.

Enhancing the Investment in your home: Pathways to a Net Zero Milton

Wednesday March 6, 2019
7 - 8:30 PM, Keyes Room
Milton Public Library,
476 Canton Ave

The series will feature four Milton architects presenting a variety of ways to green existing and new homes.  Topics will range from simple renovations to building homes that depend entirely on renewable energy.

The series will: outline detailed, practical steps you can engage in to enhance the comfort, value and efficiency of your home; and illustrate how the return on investment from insulating to installing solar panels competes with even aggressive investment strategies. Homeowners who have undergone similar projects will join presenters for an open panel discussion.

Our series begins March 6 with Architect Joseph Kennard, presenting “About a Milton Net Zero Energy Home – Building New Homes in the Age of Energy Conservation”.  Joseph will show us how smart and attractive design seamlessly partner with efficient, low maintenance systems in a recently completed net zero energy Milton home.

Our series at the Milton Public Library will continue ...

On Weds June 5, 7 - 8:30 PM Henry P. MacLean, Architect and Sustainable Milton Board Member will discuss "Renovations & Additions: tracking the MPG of our existing homes".

In September JB Clancy, Architect, will present:  "Form Follows Energy – historical evolution of home energy use – How the new energy landscape alters the way we design our homes".

In December Thomas Piatt, Architect, will present:  "Creative Opportunities for Sub-dividing Larger Homes – One family, 2 family, 3 family, 4.. : planning tools for a net zero energy Milton".

September and December dates and other details to follow:

Please Note: These presentations will be filmed and broadcast by Milton Access TV.

10 AM - 4 PM
Brookwood Farm
11 Blue Hill River Rd, Canton

Bring the family out for a fun and tasty day in the Blue Hills.

See, smell, taste and learn how maple syrup is made.  From sizing up and tapping trees to boiling sap over a wood-fired evaporator in the Sugar House, the whole process will be joyfully presented to all.

Games for kids, local artisans and plenty of fresh, local syrup to sample and purchase.  If you're still hungry there will be a food truck and a bonfire to gather around while noshing.  Mark your calendar.  We'll see you there!

For more info visit the Trailside Museum's website

A big shout out to  Rep. William Driscoll (D-Milton) who signed on as a co-sponsor of Rep. Jennifer Benson's (D-Lunenburg) revised Carbon Fee and Rebate Bill (HD2370).

This critical pending legislation would be a model nationally and a game-changer here in MA.  To view the text of the proposed bill and see who else is co-sponsoring it visit the MA Legislature website.
