Tiny living living large in outdoors
For Julia Santos and Robert Barclay, their dream home is one they can enjoy in a vast array of landscapes.
In 2020, they sold their 5,000 sq ft home and moved into a home they custom-built together -- a home that spans less than 300 sq ft. However, they were determined not to compromise on the comforts they had become accustomed to.
"While we did not know it at the time we started this project, the pandemic has had a tremendous impact in how people live.
"We had a vision, a desire, to show people what was possible." says Barclay of HelanCX.

Tiny living with Sub-Zero Wolf
From a design perspective, the challenge was daunting; how do you make a a very small space feel luxurious, ensuring enough storage, all while considering transportability and sustainability?
Blending the outdoor and indoor spaces became key to achieving the illusion of a large open kitchen -- by opening the glass folding windows and converting removable decking into a patio, the space transforms into a spacious outdoor kitchen and dining area.
With the kitchen serving as the heart of their home, they fit in an array of standard size

appliances from Sub-Zero Wolf, so they could cook just as they had in their previous home. With creative cabinet building, they were even able to incorporate a spice rack, coffee center and a baking prep station.
Remarkably, the entire home is powered by solar panels and 4 Tesla batteries, enabling them to travel across the country, off the grid, with minimum impact on the environment.
"There is so much possibility... and there are so many wonderful benefits that comes from this [lifestyle]," says Santos. Barclay adds, "When we look at the space we have created, it really is a gathering place."
