FOR PETE'S SAKE "In Faith And Loyalty"

FOR PETE'S SAKE "In Faith And Loyalty"
12"LP - $9.60

OK. Pyramid Sound; Ithaca, NY; Anthrax-SOD-Testament; trying to draw like Pushead; Guav putting out that first Earth Crisis 7"; tattoos and GED's; Ronny James Dio down the road, halfway to Syracuse; late night punk radio on Thursdays; hating Boston for no good reason. All of the things that add up to one particular and specific moment in time, which in hindsight seems like endless good times. Sorta happily skips over the common denominator running straight down the line: life sorta sucked. Fuck your parents. Fuck cops. Fuck your teachers. And on. And on...

Nostalgia—nostos algos—literally translates as "our pain" which always seems the part the endless reunion show cycle/spirit of 88 seems to ignore. FOR PETE’S SAKE is a sorta magic trick: it sounds like the Hardcore you remember, but (even better) sounds like WHY you listened to Hardcore in the first place. And there's just nothing better than that, even when then there's nothing worse. ‘Cause, God knows (my God; the one with the horns) that's what all the good music does and did, then and now: got you through the worst shit.

12"LP - $12.50 / CD - $8.75

Bayonne-based quintet THE RODEO IDIOT ENGINE have been nothing but unstoppable since their very first steps in 2009, tirelessly sculpting a signature sound torn between the most abrasive sides of chaotic hardcore, post-metal or screamo. After gaining a growing reputation all over Europe due to their 250 staggering, seizure-inducing live shows, the band returned to Amaury Sauvé's studio in Laval during summer 2015 to track «Malaise», their third full-length and follow-up to 2013's «Consequences».
While most acts tend to soften with age, the band's work has only become darker over the years. Opener "Le Parfum" sets the tone, with merciless, spasmodic rhythms morphing into bleak, slow-paced heaviness and emotionally-charged vocals screamed to the breaking point. From the straight-up barrage of grinding yet melodic tracks ("Carrying Icons", "Final Relief") to more downtempo, menacing ones ("Syngue Sabour", "Thousand Of Nails"), «Malaise» is a dense album with rich atmospheres and structures. On these nine tracks THE RODEO IDIOT ENGINE's trademark sound has turned more expressive, resulting in nothing but the band's strongest material to date.

MINDSET "Nothing Less"

MINDSET "Nothing Less"
7"EP - $4.10

In the tradition of the valedictory three-song 7”, inaugurated by Youth of Today’s 1989 sendoff, Disengage, Mindset have in the earliest days of 2016 staked a claim on record of the year with a farewell triptych of their own: Nothing Less. A densely packed charge of pure explosive energy, the record — like one of Mindset’s peerless live sets — arrives with astonishing force, shows us something we’ve never seen before, and is suddenly over: A vanishing show of force and barely controlled chaos that awes, exhilarates, and inspires — and lives forever in memory. The new music, backed by the best-in-the-business drumming of Daniel Fang, delivers all the speed, crunch and crescendo that made Mindset’s full-length LP, Leave No Doubt, a generational document. And the lyrics, as urgent and authoritative as ever, rise to the occasion of a last will and testament: reflective, free of regret and apology, and more wrenchingly personal than ever before. Mindset will soon be gone, but with Nothing Less they have defied us to forget them.

SUPER UNISON "Self Titled"

SUPER UNISON "Self Titled"
7"EP - $4.10

“The EP is four songs long, none of which pass the two minute mark, and this thing just gets better every time you play it. They slow it down compared to Punch, and Meghan changes up her vocals a lot more which works really well. This is just great hardcore -- it's musically compelling, and even kind of accessible, but not at the expense of its total fury.” - Brooklyn Vegan

Track Listing:
01. Walk Away
02. Recognize You
03. Close Your Eyes
04. On Repeat

MERCY TIES "Proper Corruption"

MERCY TIES "Proper Corruption"
12"LP - $8.75

The cover of the new Mercy Ties record is a lie. It shows the solemn aftermath of the Mount St. Helens eruption, the placid, soot-strewn roads and abandoned vehicles. It does nothing to prepare you for the savage, incendiary assault of Proper Corruption.
Recorded with Scott Evans (Kowloon Walled City, Puig Destroyer, Thou) and mastered by Brad Boatright (Nails, Yob, Old Man Gloom) the punk fuckedness of the Seattle band’s debut EP, A Dim Lit Place, has been sharpened and grown more ugly. Now as a five-piece, they’ve channeled the venom of their live shows into these ten tracks.

In a little over 20 minutes the band uses d-beat, grindcore, sludge and vertigo-inducing mathrock to create something oppressive and relentless with only moments of relief, brief passages of unnerving quiet before another convulsion.

Featuring ex-members of Tigon, The Abominable Iron Sloth and Beau Navire, Mercy Ties is now operating at the height of their abilities, crafting music that effortlessly tears through genres to create something unique and venomous. So maybe the album cover isn’t a lie, but a warning of what to expect after Proper Corruption’s final note.

BASEMENT "Promise Everything"

BASEMENT "Promise Everything"
CD - $7.50 / CASSETTE - $5.65 / 12"LP - $15.00

Since abruptly announcing an indefinite hiatus only weeks after the release of 2012’s breakthrough LP Colourmeinkindness, Basement’s intensely devoted following has only grown. Promise Everything is the band’s full-length return to writing and recording since the break. Challenged by the spacing out of members not only across the country - but across the globe - Promise Everything was written by piecing together songs without the luxury of a space or even a time zone to share. Perhaps this is why upon listening, Promise Everything feels like a conversation between different people, revealing different moods and feelings throughout. This conversation shifts and evolves, filtering subtle, tasteful alternative rock touchstones through the band’s unmatched melodic lens. More clearly aggressive songs like “Brother’s Keeper” and title track “Promise Everything” situate Basement at the forefront of the rock world, pairing that aggression with an inherent sense of melody. On the standout track “Aquasun,” lyrical flow and melody overtake the listener while overt meaning gives way to musicality and its nuance. Despite years spent apart, it would seem Basement’s musical conversation has been one that has lingered even when after it was interrupted too soon by their premature & luckily temporary break, - and as their first true cohesive document, Promise Everything is only the beginning of what Basement has to say.

Track Listing:

GHOSTLIMB "Difficult Loves"

GHOSTLIMB "Difficult Loves"
12"LP - $15.00

Ghostlimb's first release since 2012's Confluence, this is a beast of the hated interim period. This is a chiseled down, lean beast of a record, equal parts melody and graveled hardcore. Some of these songs find the band in expanded form, exhibiting elements of thrash, death-metal and rock through the lens of punk and generally disliking everything in the world. This comes in a heavy glued jacket with art by Alan from Gorlock. Peep this.

GRAF ORLOCK "Crime Traveler"

GRAF ORLOCK "Crime Traveler"
12"LP - $15.00

Finally, the feature full-length film comes into being. After stealing so many hours, sneaking into film editing rooms and crying for sympathy, this record has come to fruition. Putting all of the ridiculous ideas and unimplemented theories from previous, less-realized projects, Crimetravler goes there, bringing together the last ten years of Gorlock in one depressing and aggressive LP. This is 10 songs, running just over 31 minutes and is packaged in a 12 page full-color, completely related, content driven morass that is like a time-wasting video game with much less payoff. Delve into the minds of people you wouldn't even want to be friends with in this overtly complex (master) piece. Comes with digital download and whatever else we throw in there.

Unchanged by the unstoppable march of time, You Walk Alone finds the band still able to mine the same territory as always, but formatted for the ebb and flow of a full length album. THINK I CARE "Singles Collected"

THINK I CARE "Singles Collected"
12"LP - $11.25

Think I Care were a band that existed in the first half of the aughts in Massachusetts, and available on this lp for the first time since 2002 are their two earliest 7" releases, plus an unreleased song and a stray comp track from that era - remastered for maximum destruction. During 2000-2002 TIC canvased the USA on the back of these 2 7"s, hitting every shithole basement and VFW that would have them. While their later work was known for a midpaced NYHC style, this era of the band was heavily indebted to Infest, DYS, Dropdead, and Siege, or if you're a New England townie local: Hatchetface, Intent to Injure, and Paindriver. Members of TIC also did time in Fit For Abuse, New Lows, Prisoner Abuse, Dead Black, Vaccine, and many more.

DRESS CODE "Perception"
7"EP - $5.00

Since the dawn of time, “punk” and “hardcore” have been synonymous yet separate. The former invokes a more theatrical yet haphazard approach, with the latter connoting more deliberate and tough. The term “punk hardcore” has often come to mean a transitional phase between these to connected genres, but Houston, Texas’s Dress Code are not a missing link, they are the curators of this definition. Their use of both punk and hardcore’s defining features allow them to have a show where members fall and moshers mosh, while their music is a berates our ear drums with relentless speed and baritone vocals. Perception is the debut 7” out this winter on Xpressions Records.

Track Listing:
01. Perception
02. Illusion Of
03. White Knight

LIFE OF REILLY "Break The Silence E.P."

There are very few things that are straight forward in this world. Yes means no, no means yes, everything somehow means something else. Nothing can escape being scrutinized and analyzed one thousand times over. Life of Reilly leave no room for interpretation: they are a hardcore punk band akin to early USHC and that’s it. Their debut 7”, Break The Silence, shows the band playing authentic, unembellished music equal parts midwest and abrasive DC.

With a love and appreciation for classic hardcore music and the intent to create something new and refreshing, World Be Free was formed. They worked on crafting a sound that leaned heavily on the inspiration of the classic hardcore and punk albums they all grew up on, while adding a modern twist that kept it new and fresh. LP includes digital download of this record. This is the green vinyl version, limited to 553 copies.

7"EP - $5.00

"Frameworks are building on an already impressive sound — the Gainesville post-hardcore band had our attention with their searing 2014 debut Loom, and they captivate even further on “Time Spent,” their first track since then and the precursor to a new album that’s out next year. The song in particular will feature on an EP that’s due out in February, alongside one other new one, “Worn Out.” Everything sounds even more textured and epic here, as if that were even possible, and they still hold onto that same fury." - Steregum

Track Listing:
01. Worn Out
02. Time Spent

This record is short, fast, brutal, heavy and loud...honestly, what more would you expect from them? Get the pre-order and then go see them live, they tour constantly and I have never seen them play a bad show.

MAGIC CIRCLE "Journey Blind"
CD - $11.10 / 12"LP - $16.10

Who said anything about running out of ideas? The stubborn ones were born to linger, to nose out newer, more subtle permutations with the help from a few ragged fucks willing to practice them. Magic Circle mutt roll in heavy metal whatness, striking a balance with the pituitary culture it begat, and the tunes it jacked out. Suburban drag races. Basement bum wine scrum. Every collective thought burnt into a dirty tape dub of Mob Rules.
Sabbath, especially in its later incarnations, hulks ephemerally among all openings, rests and codas. When Chris Corry’s and Dan Ducas’s guitars aren’t jelly-legging around Iommi, they’re rekindling “Neon Knights,” brandishing “Die Young” credo. Meanwhile, Q clubs the kit like a drunken Ginger Baker. Brendan Radigan stakes a big, black flag in vocal territory long occupied by Saint Vitus, Saxon, Armored Saint and Trouble. Bassist Justin DeTore alternates creepy crawl and thunder word belch, laying yoke over each tune and driving them predjudicially underground.

But motherfuck simply “sounding” like these bands. Magic Circle celebrates them, and in doing so honors the form they have found. It’s heavy metal. Hit hard. Write riffs that clack along like rustbucket tanks into perpetuity. “Play” bass in ways that make you at once inseparable from every punch the drummer lands, and also ghosts every riff—working beneath, between, behind the rhythm. Sing that fucking story as every ancient did their Homer. It means something. It stands for something. Bring that to the tape.

And so Magic Circle does. Tunes are rude, vicious. Some lumber ominously along, bare-fisting the downbeat through riffs risen from basements held in the odors of stale beer, mold and want. Others stuff the song’s shape with directional changes—tipping a cap to Trouble and Saint Vitus via Sabbath. All the dots are easily connected. There’s no sport there. But, in lieu of refinement, one gets an honest reckoning: Magic Circle is a band (quickly) becoming. Through the web of influence and itchy, artistic compulsion they’ve found savage and ultimately promising ways of reanimating long since taxidermied forms.

01. Journey Blind
02. The Damned Man
03. A Ballad For The Vultures
04. Lightning Cage
05. Ghosts Of The Southern Front
