Pet Points

June 2017

After a very rainy spring, it finally feels like summer has arrived. Since our summers are fairly short here in Toronto, make sure you get outside and enjoy the warmer weather with your furry friend. Get a new outdoor toy for your dog, or try a harness and leash on your cat. And stop into Pet Pointe and pick up some doggie "ice cream" which you can learn about below.  We will also introduce you to our latest raw pet food, and a new natural line of treats with apple cider vinegar. And as always, if there is something you would like to see in a future newsletter, please send us an email

Many pet parents are now switching to raw food for their dog or cats because of the overall health benefits that raw fed pets receive. Since raw food is not processed or heated, vitamins, nutrients and minerals are more bioavailable for your pet. In the past, raw pet feeding has been much more expensive, but with more companies producing this type of food, there are a lot more options.  We decided to bring in Iron Will Raw because it comes in conveniently pre-packaged portions, is 100% made in Ontario, with human grade, CFIA (Canadian Food Inspection Agency) inspected meats. Iron Will has 9 different complete meals, 3 different ground formulas (for those just looking for meat, bone, and organ) and 4 different meal deals. There are many benefits to feeding raw, and many of our customers have noticed, better skin and coat, better breath, no more tear staining, as well as less itching and scratching. Drop by Pet Pointe, and get a $5.00 off coupon on your first purchase.
Another new product at Pet Pointe that we are excited about is Blue Dane Dog Treats. Blue Dane dry ages their meat with the use of apple cider vinegar to maintain nutritional values. The dry aging process uses little to no heat to produce the savory meat products while maintaining the quality of the essential amino acids. We currently carry 4 different flavours of Blue Dane in both Bites and Strips. Stop by for a sample.

Even up here in Canada, our summers can be very warm, especially for our pets. It is important that when they are outside they have proper shade and access to water, and beware that very hot pavement can burn the paws of dogs and cats. And never, never leave your pet in the car, even for a short period of time.Every year pets die from being left in a car during the hot summer months. Even with the windows left open a bit, a car heats up very quickly. People often think they are just going to leave their pet for a few minutes, but something unexpected could happen, leaving the owner unable to get back to their car. Watch this video to see how quickly a car can heat up.  Help spread the word about the dangers of leaving pets in hot cars.
