NHPCO Hosts Congressional Briefing on Value of Hospice Care

Washington, DC—The National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization (NHPCO) held a briefing on Capitol Hill on March 26, 2019, to educate lawmakers about the value of the Medicare Hospice Benefit, address concerns with the current design of the Medicare Hospice Benefit and discuss NHPCO’s vision for future policy reforms. The briefing featured three panelists who provided attendees with key insights into hospice, the origins of this philosophy of care and its impact on millions of Americans each year. … “Hospice is an important but often underutilized service covered under Medicare. Home Health, Hospice Executives to See 2.73% Salary Bump in 2019

Salaries for home health and hospice corporate executives will see a planned increase of 2.73% in 2019, a new industry compensation report has found. Execs from agencies with under $30 million in annual revenues are set for the biggest salary bump.

Ex-operator of east Arkansas hospice pleads guilty to Medicaid fraud
Reversing the trend of nursing home closures
A former Arkansas hospice owner, a key player in what authorities say is one of Mississippi’s worst Medicaid-fraud schemes, pleaded guilty to similar charges in Little Rock on Monday, plus a count of failure to Charline Brandon, 63, of Cleveland, Miss., will be sentenced next month after Pulaski County Circuit Court Judge Herb Wright determines how much restitution she should pay. 

As was discussed at length in a recent U.S. Senate Committee on Finance hearing focused on nursing home care, and detailed in corresponding press reports, facilities across rural America are facing financial hardships that are driving many to close their doors—forcing families to travel vast distances to find an adequate facility that offers the quality of care their loved ones require.
