Celebrating Abilities
August 1 - August 31
Arts Access is partnering with Marbles Kids Museum to bring back Celebrating Abilities, an art exhibit featuring the works of North Carolina students with disabilities. The exhibit is being hosted by Marbles in Downtown Raleigh throughout the month of August. 

Marbles and Arts Access will be hosting a reception for the artists and their families, Sunday, August 14 from 5:30-7:30, during Marbles monthly Family Fun Night.  Drop by and see what these talented artists have done!

Learning New Things!

Arts Access Executive Director Betsy Ludwig attended the John F. Kennedy Centers VSA Intersections and LEAD conferences in Pittsburgh, PA. The Intersections conference was part of our Professional Development contract with the Kennedy Center, and the LEAD conference was in conjunction with our participation in the 2016 Arts Learning Community for Universal Access (group pictured above with Betty Siegel - conf. organizer) sponsored by United Arts of Wake County and the City of Raleigh Office of the Arts. Both conferences were chock-full of best practices related to inclusion in the arts for children and adults with disabilities. We look forward to sharing this content in our work!

Support Arts Access!
 

For the month of August artist Heather Smith  will be donating a portion of proceeds from sale of her art pieces to Arts Access. Heather will be completing a painting a day challenge for 30 days as well as giving away a painting every Monday to supporters. Heather Smith is an artist and intention specialist who holds a BFA in painting from Denver Metropolitan University. Heather teaches visualization and vision board workshops for teams and individuals, and facilitates The Possibility Society where groups gather to speak and dream of their goals and values out loud. Heather is excited to join NC from her native Southern California in the fall with her partner, musician and local community leader Chris Hendricks.

NCMA Summer Films Series Presents:
North by Northwest

 
Arts Access is excited to announce that Friday's NCMA screening of North by Northwest will be an Audio Described showing. This 1959 classic thriller is touted as one of Alfred Hitchcock's best films: a tale of mistaken identity, as an innocent man, played by Cary Grant, is pursued across the U.S. by agents of a mysterious organization.

The NCMA Summer Films Series hosts outdoor showings of contemporary and classic films Fridays and Saturdays throughout the summer. All showings take place after dusk on the lawn of the museum amphitheater. Check the NCMA website for more information  

Kudos To Our Partner In Access!

 
Thank you to our Summer Intern Jensen Collins! She is a rising Junior at Elon College majoring in communications. She has coordinated several projects for Arts Access this summer including the Marbles Art Exhibit and our survey for the John Rex Planning Grant. We are so thankful for her good work, and wish her the best. Any future employer would be lucky to have her!
