Arts Access is pleased to offer this workshop for people interested in becoming audio describers. Participants in this training are eligible to audition for Audio Describer employment opportunities with Arts Access.
What is Audio Description?
Audio Description is a narration service for individuals who are blind or have low vision.The audio describer provides an ongoing dialogue of visual events that are taking place.
Participants will Learn
-how to articulate visual details effectively and in the moment
-tips for bringing audio description back to your organization
-how to enhance the theater or gallery experience for the blind and low vision audience.

Two Upcoming Events From The Women's Club of Raleigh
Artist of the Month Exhibition
The Women's Club of Raleigh will host an exhibit featuring the work of Raleigh artist, Alex Roa. Specializing in origami, Roa chose his medium as a coping mechanism to handle stress. "What was once a necessity and coping mechanism is now a hobby and done strictly for enjoyment," says the artist of his work.
The exhibit will begin this Tuesday, January 10, and continue through the end of the month. You can see Roa's work at The Women's Club of Raleigh, 3300 Women's Club Drive. For more information visit the website, or call 919-782-5599.
Annual Women's Club of Raleigh Art Festival
The Women's Club of Raleigh will hold their annual Art Festival January 23. Submissions from artists with disabilities are still being accepted in all age categories and mediums through January 20.
- Student artists, grades 6-8 may submit works in Visual Arts, Crafts, or Photography categories.
- Student artist, grades 9 -12 may submit works in Music, Visual Arts, Crafts, or Photography categories.
- Adult artists 18+ may submit works in Music, Visual Arts, Crafts, or Photography categories.

Join Us for Accessibility 101!
The Ashe County Arts Council, in partnership with Arts Access and the North Carolina Arts Council are pleased to offer a workshop that will enable cultural organizations to better include people with disabilities. The workshop will cater to administrators, board members, volunteers, ushers, teachers, docents, box office staff, and additional front line staff at cultural arts organizations.
Participants will learn:
- Overview of the Americans with Disabilities Act and how it impacts arts organizations
- Common accommodations for customers with disabilities and where to find them
- Sensitivity and disability etiquette in communications and assisting someone
- Emergency procedures and safety issues
- Steps for writing your organization’s ADA plan
When: Monday, March 20th, 2:00-5:00pm

Guided Tactile Tours at NC Museum of Natural Sciences
The NC Museum of Natural Sciences are announcing a beneficial alteration to their accessibility offerings. Due to increased requests, the museum will offer pre-scheduled guided tactile tours twice monthly. The tours remain free, and are an hour & a half long. Pre-registration is required, and additional accommodations can be made. For more information, including a complete tour schedule through June, visit their website.
